Time to buy a new digital camera

I currently have the olympus camedia C700 2.1 mega pixel. Its got a 10x zoom, which i love, it works with AA batteries and the smartmedia card, which is cheap and easy to find at a walmart when i forget it at home.
Well i think its time to move up to more megapixels...like 5 or more. I would like to keep the AA idea, cuz they are rechargeable, i have a lot of them and they work with my MP3 player, that is a recharger as well. I would also like a decent zoom. I have about 5 or 600 to spend in american dollars.
I thought i should jump up to more megapixels so i could take a better landscape picture, which i tend to take a lot of.

Any recomendations??? I saw the canon A80 and the fuji 7000 i liked them...any others??

Thanks,
mr b

P.S. the camedia may be for sale as well if i find a new one.

the Olympus 5050z is an incredible camera...

I'd also suggest the Nikon coolpix in that same comparable feature set.

I have a 2020z which is a 2Mp camera as well. I blew up a picture to 20x30 and you'd never know that more megapixels weren't needed.

I'd also say that a 5Mp will also have larger file sizes way in 2-3x of what your current sizes are which should be around 300-400kb.

I've got the Olympus 5050 and it's great. They latest model is the 5060 but it's essentially the same camera as the 5050.

I have the Canon Camedia C40Zoom and it's very nice. I believe there is an updated C50Zoom now available. I would recommend you check that out.

I just bought a Nikon D70 digital SLR on Friday. This model has just been released and is pretty damn hot. But at over a $1,000 it's probably too much. So check out the newer Canon Camedia range.

Take a look at the Pentax Optio series (sorry about the lame linK)

http://www.pentaxusa.com/products/ca...roductid=18173

To me the beauty of digital is the small size. This little camera has 5X OPTICAL zoom (digital zoom doesn't cut it). I'm not sure about the battery it uses.

You may also want to check out this http://www.dpreview.com/site

they have reviews and comments on everything digital. Also, don't skimp on the card; most of my digital camera problems, like corrupted files, were solved when I changed to the SanDisk ULTRA card.

Good Luck
