[SQL?] Studying for DB design test

hey guys, just had a quick question about a part of database design, specifically making Entity Relationship Diagrams.

What the hell is a code table? I've looked around on google, but couldn't find a definite defintion and what it's used for.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe that a code table is a general term for a table which contains code/description pairs. It's usually linked to other tables via a foreign key and used for code look-ups. Also know as a Look-up table.
