Enermax or Sparkle have the quietest fans I've ever heard (or not heard). My old Sparkle was completely silent (unless you put your ear RIGHT UP to it), and my current Enermax is barely audible.
You sure it's your PSU thats making the majority of the noise? Check your CPU fan also.

I'm using a 430 watt model. Not sure of the model number or any of that (the box is at home). Any of the "NoiseTaker" models should do the trick.

Because I have a POS Dell computer, I couldn't just walk into any CompUSA and buy a PSU. After searching and hints, from this board and others, I found these guys:
http://www.pcpowercooling.com/home.htm I got the Silncer 410 and it works great. The only thing I hear is my CPU Fan, barely, in the background. My 2 cents

See how immature this can get? Give it up, you got a shitty Enermax, and there's not much you can do about it (but sell it to a friend). I happen to know someone who got a shitty Vantec as well. It happens. Not to mention my Enermax is barely audible. Give it up, man. Shit happens to everyone. Just because yours didn't come with enough Molex connectors and didn't power your system doesn't mean they all suck. So stop bashing Enermax over and over. I'm not bashing Vantec because my friend's was a POS!

And we honestly don't know if my or your PSU is more powerful. Unless we switch PSU's and test it we'll never know, so please stop talking out of your ass. And if we really want to nitpick, my vid card uses waaaay more power than yours, and I have more cathodes, almost as many LED fans, and I have one more CD rom than you. I'll bet my ass I could add a couple more HD's and my PSU wouldn't even blink. Lastly, my monitor is plugged into my PSU. Are we done pissing at each other yet? Cathodes count for 10 watts or so. You don't even have as many fans as me. Each one of my hard drives are 35 watts. Adding a "couple more hard drives" to your setup wouldn't even be nibbling at my setup.
I'm not talking out of my ass. I have results to prove my premisses. You have talk. I'm just saying that you don't see me saying "Vantec sux" because I know someone who had a bad one. So stop saying "Enermax sux" because your's didn't meet your expectations. It would be slightly different if EVERYONE'S Enermax PSUs weren't good. But your's was the only one that I've heard of. Stop being immature. Just because one Lamborghini's engine block cracks doesn't mean they all suck. I'm not "pissing" at you. I'm trying to get you to act like a fucking educated consumer.

Obviously not educated enough, then! Just because one product fails doesn't mean that the rest suck. I ordered an Athlon XP the other day, and it came dead on arrival. Does that mean all Athlon XP's suck? No. It doesn't take that much effort to realize that, either.
Let's just call it a day and say that we agree that POWMAX and RAIDMAX PSU's suck. -Lasereth

Also- last I noticed, simply stating an opinion (such as _____ sucks my balls) is not against the rules, no matter how much you disagree with it. There's way too much flaming coming from all sides- any more of it and the thing gets locked down. Thanks a heap. -analog. Last edited by analog; 03-29-2004 at 09:39 PM.. |

Hey, I never said that anyone was breaking the rules! I didn't even report anything to a moderator. It just baffles me that someone with the intelligence to say "...sucks my balls" in a sentence has moderator priveleges at these forums. I thought a certain level of etiquette was required to be a moderator (not to mention a certain level of maturity)
you can call arguing back and forth "immature" but I think saying "sucks my balls" like a fourth-grader definitely takes the cake. lock this thread if you want, I'm just trying to explain myself and my opinion on the matter. I hate when people are misinformed due to someone's foul and biased opinion.

Hey, I'm just letting the thread starter know that Enermax isn't all it's cracked up to be, and there are other/better options. Just because I'm not an Enermax fanboy that doesn't mean that I don't know shit.
I always like how people try to act mature by saying someting I say is immature... So lame. Please try to tell me you never said that something/someone sucks your balls. We all say stuff like that. So please get over it. |

You may think you're letting the thread start know that Enermax isn't all it's cracked up to be, but in reality all you're letting him know is that yours failed to deliver. Why not just say that yours came broke, so you might want to be wary? Then we'd all grasp the opinion and consider an alternative. But you're simply classifying every Enermax product as being shit because of one malfunction. That's bias, and biased recommendations are useless!

I bought a 540 Watt Sparkle that couldn't even power up my system. What a hunk of crap. I will never buy another Sparkle again, and recommend nobody else does either.
/Flamebait. Actually did buy a 540 (550?) sparkle and it rocks the house. Not enough Molex Connectors, but for $3.50 you can solve that issue. BUY A SPARKLE FOLKS..

Thank you for being amiable.
Immaturity is relative, often situational, and can frequently belie intelligence. Just because he said it sucks his balls makes him neither "like a 4th grader", nor stupid. No one owes apology for their opinions. Just have fun and enjoy the place, ok? No reason to get all knotted up over this. The world will keep spinning. Thanks! |

Anyway,
I just took out my PSU (I have a Chieftec Dragon cabinet), opened it up, DID NOT TOUCH THE CAPACITORS!!!!!!, and changed the lousy crappy noisy fan with a 12db NoiseBlocker one. Works like a charm, and now I found out that the radiator in my room is fucking loud with all the cluckcluckclucking of the water... I also changed my graphics card cooler to a passive Zalman one, one less fan to worry about. Next step is replacing the CPU cooler with a silent Zalman one, and my computer is dead silent. Until then, I turn down my fan to 40%, works great as long as I'm not powergaming. The temperature rises to about 40 C when surfing etc, but that's not bad at all. Finally, I'm going to buy some resonance and vibration padding - that should do the final trick. |
