Best FTP client
Which ones do you recommend? I am trying to pick a good one.
|
WS-FTP LE if you want it for free... But if you are prepared to pay a little, FlashFXP.
|
My favorite client has always been Leechftp, it's multi-threaded, provides all the controls I need, and most important of all... IT'S LIGHTWEIGHT... The performance difference is very noticeable especially on a system like mine that is frequently overloaded.
|
I like LeapFTP, nothing fancy, but it's small and it works.
|
FlashFXP.
Def. worth paying for. One of the few proggies I've paid for |
I use CuteFTP Pro. I think it works great, but it isn't free.
Although, I didn't pay. *runs and hides* |
LeechFTP over here too. Love it's speed and ease of use. Multi-threaded downloads from ftp servers is cool. :)
|
Many siteops don't allow multithreading...
Depends on how you plan on using it/on what kind of sites. |
i use leechFTP too. i think its free, but some of it's in german.... hmmm... maybe i downloaded the wrong version.
;-) |
i use ws ftp Pro.
Works great. |
I'll toss a vote in for FlashFXP. I've been using it for a while.
|
Core FTP isn't bad either.
|
|
flash is the best imo and also one of the few programs i liked enough to pay for a serial for
|
I'm with Holo... I'm all about SmartFTP... been using it for a while now. Good stuff. :)
|
filezilla has been my only FTP client for sometime now. I forget what used before that.
|
I've been really happy with smartftp.
|
I also use SmartFTP and haven't had any issues with it - of course, just to be nitpicky, the original poster didn't specify what operating system he needed the client for, we all just assumed Win32.

I use FlashFXP to put stuff on my xbox, it was well worth the money. I tried SmartFTP once and decided I liked Flash better, so I bought it. Everybody has their own taste in programs like this, so I suggest you try some demo/free versions of clients suggested here to pick one you really like.
|
Bulletproof FTP. Another one of the few programs I actually paid for (I just posted in the 'best text editor' thread hehe). IT's lightweight, does what I want.. I was very happy with it (was is because I'm on Linux now and don't use it anymore).

FlashFXP is good..
it's easy enough to use if you're a beginner, and it's really powerful to use if you're an advanced user. If not that, I recommend CuteFTP.. that's a good one too. |
I would vote for SmartFTP, i think it works great.
As for WS_FTP_LE, i dont like it. the main reason is, if you want to delete a folder and its contents it wont let you. you have to delte the contents then go back and delte the folder. where as SmartFTP will delete the files and the folder with one click! |

WHY to use filezilla? Because it's free as in speech not as in beer. This means the source code is availible for all to see... thus, you can be sure that there's no spyware, no viruses, no ads, and less bugs. Why pay for a client when you can use an open source one? I used FlashFXP's trial version, and saw no advantage of it over filezilla. |
Oh man. Not alot of these are for mac.
|
I hate SmartFTP. It's bloaty and slow and tries to micromanage how often you update it. I used it for years, constantly annoyed, until I found a better alternative.
FileZilla gives you all the same functionality, much faster, for the same price. |
IMO FlashFXP is simply the best.

Would like to note that with FlashFXP's 3.0 release, its even better then ever before. :)
