Deleting Files

Whenever I would download something and its a large file like a movie or tv shows, etc

After awihle, I would delete it just to get rid of junk file that I don't use anymore but it doesn't simply because it's being used by another person or program.

I look at the property of the program and noticed that it's archieved. I had the same problem before with smaller files and simply just unchecked the archeive checkbox but in this case it's unchecked.

Any idea?

1st thing - try to del from commandline.
If it says the sys cannot find the file specified or something, then try renaming it (via explorer) and try cmd again.

then report back to us ;)

If you have IE, try cleaning your temporary internet files. I remember that a large amount of temp files could cause problems with downloads. Also, make sure you've cleared the file from whatever program you downloaded it with. For example, if you've Kazaa'd something, and someone's uploading it, the file is in use.

Tried to delete it from cmd, renaming it to different name, no luck.

I cleared all the temp folders, cleared history, etc, anything that I could think of that involves clearing something.

I think I'll get linux to access window's parition of the harddrive and delete it from there. It should work for sure.

Thanks for the help guys.

you could try boot into 'safe mode with command prompt' and delete it from there.

linux access to win's partition will work for sure.

I've been having similar problems with video files. I had them on my old computer but since it crashed I couldn't move them to the new one. Anyways they are kick ass lesbian clips that are both pretty long. The problem is that when I open them, my media players (I've tried a few) only play about 1 min of the total clip. I know that they are much longer (one is 15 min and about 114 MB). The file sizes are correct and they start out the same, for whatever reason, the media players won't play the whole clips.

if you shred the file with linux it will definitely remove it from the hard drive, but i've experienced some difficulty deleting win files with linux. like, windows getting pissed off that somethings not there but keeping the shortcut and giving me the blue screen of death. be careful with that...

I've noticed this problem usually only happens to me if that particular file was the last one used in one of your media players. try opening up another file that your going to keep with your other media players then delete that file you wanted to get rid of. Should work just fine.

I Usually go to safe mode and delete the files.

you dont' have to reboot to bypass the protection. Just kill explorer and use the File-Run from Taskmgr to navigate to the file and delete it, then type explorer in the Run box and hit enter.
