Network problem XP Pro to Home... ARRRRRR
Here's my situation. I have one pc running XP Pro and two more running XP Home. All are networked and I'm not using simple file sharing. For the two xp home machines to see the shares on the xp pro machine, I created the same account and gave that account permissions for the shares. All works fine.
Here's the problem: Now I've built a new pc, also running xp pro. I've configured it identically to the other xp pro machine. It can see all the shares on the other xp home pc's, BUT they can't see any shares on the new pro pc. I've spent hours trying to figure this out. I've checked the Internet Security logs; nothing. I've disabled the internet security; nothing. I've dropped and recreated the accounts and shares; nothing. No matter what, the xp home pc's always give the same error: "Access Denied". Any thoughts? |
Are you using Zone Alarm or something and haven't put the IP range of the new computer in the trusted zone?
I know it's a lame question, but I've had networking problems and fought them for hours only to find out I stupidly didn't configure the firewall properly. |
I use NIS 2003. I've got the IP range configured correctly, but just to be sure, I even disabled it for testing.
Eventually I solved my problem. I had been using IPX as the protocol for file sharing. I switched back to TCPIP, then all was fine. |
