Norton Internet Security 2004

I'm hoping you tech gurus can help my friend out.
(yes, I can have a friend, too.)
He thought it might be a firewall prob, but he couldn't figure it out.

I bought Norton Internet Security 2004 today. After I installed it I could not get on line. My computer would not recognize my dsl modem. It is an external modem. I tried to reinstall my service and the wizard would not let me. I did a system restore and went back a few days and was able top get back on line. Does any one know how I can get them to work together? I use a usb port on the back of my computer to connect to my modem.
If you need more info, let me know, if you will.

Thanks in advance.

I suspect the firewall refuses to allow the computer to connect to the modem (duh!). Perhaps you should take a look at the default rules - they might be set to reject all internet access...

Or... perhaps it's because NIS uses some sort of "bridge" between the computer and the "network card" (usb port). Something might be wrong there. Take a look at the network connections, see if you find anything different.

Or... ditch NIS, get zonealarm, and do away with the crap.
