Nice setup, I'm running the same mobo, a bit slower memory, with a 2.8 and I love it!

Curious though, what made you go with this ? Versus, say, the Sony 8X ?

Looks good! You could save some money by buying non-ECC, non-Registered RAM, even though if I had the money I'd be buying it too. It's not essential, but it does have benefits in different areas (mainly error reporting and stability).

For the money you'd spend on a Radeon 9600, not buying a 9800 Pro would be a waste! The Radeon 9800 Pro is only a little over $200 now. The 9600 will be $100-$150; may as well go for the 9800 Pro while the price is low!

Mephex: Checked out Tech-TV, they did a test of the LG Electronics vs. the Sony 8x... Pound for Pound (dollar for dollar) the LG put up a great fight. While the specs were slower on the LG, they weren't slow enough to warrant the expenditure on the Sony.
OH yeah, Sparkle 530 w Power supply also..

Lasereth: Thanks for all of your help with this setup. You have responded with knowledge to all of my posts, and as far as I am concerned you are welcome to come use the bad boy anytime!

Glad to be of service! I just try to let people know about the hardware market as much as possible. There are a lot of facts that people don't know about (like the fact that a videocard made in 2003 isn't automatically better than one made in 2002 or before). I basically want to help people get the best bang for their buck while meeting their needs.

Losthellhound:

To be honest, the looks were 2nd on this. Top mounted (on top of the case!) USB and Firewire were HUGE selling points. I kick my bottom mounted units all the time.
Also, have a child in the house that likes to mess with low objects. With the case cover he won't have access!!!!!

I would be lying if I said that looks played no part!

I'd also go with the non-ECC RAM unless the money is burning a hole in your pocket. You can get non-ecc ram for less than half the price. With the extra money you could upgrade the vid card now instead of waiting. Are you gaining so much by buying the ecc registered that it is worth spending twice as much?

Lasereth:

Since the vid card is on the recycle list, I took his not about upgrading as him having the 9600 already and will upgrade soon, not that he will upgrade to the 9600. I could be way off though.

I'm with the others. I think the registered RAM is pointless, and you coulda saved the money, or most importantly, put it toward a 9800 PRO.

Not a fan of any Thermaltake cases, but if you like it, that's all that matters.

I'm looking at the AMD Athlon XP 3200+ listed at $215. It only has the 400 FSB, but it benchmarks faster than the Intel.

I know the AMD vs. Intel war has been played out in here before, but I still think they out-perform the Intel chips at half the price.
