How hot is your box?

So quackers' has finally finished his gaming machine. Rah! Overclocking will come later - once I get a watercooling kit - but for now I just want to make sure everything stays reasonably cool. I've never really bothered getting a temperature reading in my other machines, since I never had the option, but this new box has internal temperature sensors.

Is there an average temp I should be striving to achieve (realizing that lower is better). Mid-30s? Mid-40s? Mid-50s? (Celcius, of course) Higher?

What's the current temp of your CPU?

Which processor do you have, which CPU heatsink fan are you using, and are you using thermal grease or a thermal pad?

100% load for a few days (SETI) CPU is 123F. Case is 87F.

I've got an AthlonXP 2100+ running at 2.2GHz (which is 3200+ equivalent).

I've got an Alpha 8045 heatsink with a Sunon 80mm fan on it. On my northbridge I've got one of those gold Zalman noiseless heatsinks, works a hell of a lot better than that stock POS.

That's a little hot, but nothing unusual for a CPU that is OCed (especially a 2100+). I wouldn't worry about it until it reaches 60 C (140 fahrenheit). If you want to cool it down some, just for shits and giggles, I suggest the Thermalright SLK-900 heatsink. And a nice 80 MM fan.

My Barton 2500+ is running at 45 C (about 113 fahrenheit), but my CPU fan is turned down to Low. If I crank it on High, I can get my CPU down to 32-35 Celcius.

I live in the mountains (on campus); provides for excellent "leave the window open in my room and over-clock" moments.

I OCed my Barton from 1.8 to 2.0 (not that much of an increase, but an increase nonetheless) and got the temperature down to 23 Celcius (73 Fahrenheit). My case temperature was 8 Celcius (46 Fahrenheit). Good times.

Idle CPU: 41C
Idle Case: 27C

Load it usually goes up to about 47C

Using Speeze "WhisperRock II" CPU Cooler with provided grease on AMD 2500 (no OC) in the NF7-S board.
Also the airflow in my case is bad so my temps are higher than I hoped for.

I have a 1.33 Ghz T-bird with a Thermoengine and shitty paste. I run stock about 50-51C under load (SETI). My case temps run about 30-33C. I need to get a couple of fans, but my box is pretty quiet right now.

Heh, I remember the old days with TBirds! Even with my PAL8045 my 1.33 would roast... I then I OC'd it to 1.6GHz and it just baked... I had trouble keeping it below 145 at load.

Seems like these new P4 Prescotts are going to be challenging the heat record, wonder if those old TBirds can keep the crown...

My 2.4 C is usually around 24 celcius, when gaming it goes up about 10 degrees.

I have one of these Zalman coolers with artic silver 5.

Runniing a P4 2.8c HT with the default heatsink fan. (That'll be upgraded eventually.) Thermal pad instead of grease at present.

It's running at about 34-36 now, which seems healthy enough. Should be able to drop that significantly once I install a decent heatsink and switch over to Artec silver.

34-36 are temps below what most people are looking for. Your CPU is running damn cool! My Athlon XP 1900+ runs at 40-50 celsius with a Volcano 9+ and thermal grease.

The highest my 2600XP runs at is about 58C. When idle, it will cool down to about 51-52. I was concerned about it at first, but I read around and it seemed that I shouldn't worry unless it starts going above 70C

idles at 39c with retail heatsink/fan. Then again, that's being read by the abit IS7 mobo, which tends to overestimate the heat.

the stock intel hsfs are actually very nice and they are more than adequate for stock speeds, and even some oc'ing. my rule is never let your cpu go over 50C. i have 1.33ghz t-bird and Volcano 7+ (and generic thermal paste) on lowest fan setting and i get 38C idle and like 42C load in winter, and around 42C idle and 52C load in the summer. usually, i turn up my fan during the summer

oh, and for a new hsf, i would go with the sp-94 if you can afford it, otherwise the SLK-900 is nice. arctic ceramique or as5 are good thermal compounds. hope that helps

Im satisfied with my cooling i guess.

Athlon 64 3000+ with whatever fan and heatsink came with it. House temp was about 75F. Case temp usually right around 85 or so. @ idle, cpu temp is about 90F, highest i have ever seen was 110F, normal temp during heavy application under games and the like is about 103.

33ºC with a barton 2500+ OC'd to 3200 speeds.

Its 34.6ºC in my case right now.

If I had some intake or outtake fans on it would be lower. My CPU fan is turned down really low right now too.

The jump from the 2.8 to 3.0 Intel P4 (Northwood) is incredible, they must have modified the core on the initial runs.
