HDD spins down during boot???
I just built a new computer with an ASUS K8V Mobo. I've disabled the on-board RAID controller. Here's what happens when I boot; The HDD spins up, then the bios flashes a splash screen, then the HDD powers down and then spins up again. Finally, it starts XP. Anyone know why the HDD is spinning down? It adds a delay to the boot time.

As far as I know, the Athlon64 mobos have a strange habit of turning on, then going off, and then turning on again. We've build quite a few in our computer store (not me personally, though), and I've seen it happen repeatedly. Probably a "feature". I have not seen the bios screen flash, though, so it's not quite what you described. It *might* be the harddisk, but it might also be this thing.
I have WD drives too, and I have no such problems here. |
