Questions about HP hardware...

I'm trying to fix someone's HP brand computer, but I've run into many problems because it is an HP.

At this point I have decided I need to replace the motherboard. I'm curious though, if the RAM and the CPU will work on just any old motherboard. I suspect it should, but I don't want some HP weirdness to cause me to waste about $100 on a motherboard that won't work with that hardware.

It should, I've put regular old memory on an HP board without any problems before.

What he said. I too have put more RAM in OEM machines without a problem. As for the processor, its not like Intel or AMD is gonna make a processor with a different pin configuration just for one manufacturer.

I would worry more about a new mainboard fitting in that HP case more than if the memory or processor wont work elsewhere. thats what people mean when they say propriatary.

Good point. I'll have a close look and make sure the fittings aren't super-weird.

Thanks for the help!
