Editing a Picture
when i right click on a picture and click edit it shows this message "The program does not have a file associated with it..."
it's usually ms paint, but for some reason after i went into the ADD/REMOVE window components it stopped working. MS paint is still there because I typed MS Paint in the run prompt and it appears. when i right click and open the picture with ms paint it works, but it won't open when i right click and hit edit. i hope you guys understand this. if not just reply and i'll clarify! thanks! |

Open up Explorer, choose "tools", then "folder options".
Select the "file types" tab, scroll down and find the file type you're trying to edit. Then just click the "opens with" button and choose the program you want. That should fix it, you probably just lost a registry setting or something. |

You can also do this:
1. Click once on the file. 2. Hold down the LEFT shift key, then RIGHT click on the file. 3. On the menu, select "open with" 4. When the Select program window opens, select the program you want (or other, if it's not on the list). 5. Click the checkbox for "Always use this program for this file type" THat should set that file type to open with the program you want.

Oh, you have an edit button already...ok, that's a little different.
Here's what you need to do: Open My computer, click on Tools, Folder Options. Click on the File Types Tab Go through the types until you find the type you want. Click ONCE on the file type, then click onthe Advanced button. This will open a new window with the options for that file type. One should be edit. Click ONCE on the edit command, then on the Edit button. In the window that opens, you should have the following: Action: edit Program used: "C:\WINDOWS\system32\mspaint.exe" "%1" NOTE: that is a copy from my XP system, yours should look the same. Use DDE should be checked. The application line should say: mspaint The Topic: line should say system Try that out.

Make sure the %1 is in quotes...if not, there migt be a problem with getting the exact file name and path. Both the mspaint part and the %1 are in spearate quotes. try cutting & pasting from the above post.
