[Linux] RedHat vs. SuSE
I don't want to turn this into another "what distro do you use" thread.. but I thought this article may be interesting to some. It's an analysis of Redhat Linux and SuSE Linux.
I won't copy the whole article, as it's kinda long... so.. linky is Here. |
To be honest, I have never tried SuSE. I really should, I have heard good things about it. RedHat I do have experience with, and its pretty damn good. That article is pretty good.
|
I have used both Red Hat and SuSe but nowadays my vote goes to Red Hat. A year ago I was a die-hard SuSe fan but I got tired of compiling most packages from scratch and chasing dependencies all over the place (my biggest problem with Linux so far).
Other than that, SuSe pretty much beats RH with support, ease of use and general slick-looky-ness. :) |
Red hat always gave me trouble with network cards and soundcards. Every time It would never detect shit. SuSE always did right out of the box,and with their autoupdate feature installation of many programs is too easy. I don't install Linux anymore tho, I use Knoppix.
|
I've never had problems with RH other than it not automounting my Fat32 partitions. I've loved RH since 8.0 and I know use Fedora.
I hear so much about SuSe that I may give it a try next time around. |
i've been taking a swipe or two at ubuntu... didn't like the initial toshiba support for hardware.. but once the hardware developer set up a forum for two for it.. its been just a link or two to see if my current hardware is supported..
