A problem with SpyBot
OK, so I got SpyBot, just today, and after one run I can say that ALL popups on my system have been entirely eradicated, and I couldn't be happier. BUT there is one problem... every time I start my computer, what happens? SpyBot seems to have to do a FULL SYSTEM SCAN. There is no way to get out of this scan while it is happening, no way to run anything else while it is, and it adds another 10 minutes to my booting up, which totally sucks. The biggest problem is that there is on where in the program an "options" tab. So can anyone tell me how to keep SpyBot, but prevent it from scanning my computer on Boot?
By the way, don't tell me anything about msconfig, because I tried that, and there is nothing checked for Spybot... it does it on its own. It's not in the StartUp folder either.

Run REGEDIT and look for the
"\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\" key, and locate Run, RunOnce, RunOnceEX. Check inside these for links to the Spybot app. Delete them. Too bad Spybot doesn't find itself. |

Okay, I downloaded SpyBot and installed it. Check to see if, while in advanced mode, the options under Automation > System Start labeled "Automatically run program at system startup." and "Run program once at next system startup." are checked. Uncheck them if it is already checked. If that doesn't help, uninstall the program. Also download and merge this registry file from their website: http://www.safer-networking.net/file...d-settings.reg
It will remove all traces of SpyBot from the registry. Hopefully this will work. |
