In IE what does res:// stand for?
Exactly what the title says. For example most webpages start with http:// well im getting this thing invading my start page and its coming from a res:// and referring to a .dll file.
Can anyone help me out. |
Sounds like spy-ware or Ad-ware, I would suggest running Adaware and Spybot to clean your system.
|
res stands for resource.
res://mydll.dll/(other variables pointing to where the object being called upon in the .dll) That is used to call upon objects in dll files. I don't know of any reason it would be doing this on purpose, so I also cast a vote for spyware and/or a virus. |
did you try resetting your home page? but yeah, sounds like you need spybot and ad-aware.
|
is it shdoclc? Totally normal.
|
Ive run Ad Aware and Spybot and niether have been able to find correct this issue. Next time it comes up ill post the URL its referring to.
|
Try finding & running HiJKaack This! & CWShredder, They can catch some things that Adaware & Spybot can miss.
http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip BTW, ifyou're running IE, install the following patches to prevent this from happeneing again: http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/ms03-011.asp http://www.microsoft.com/technet/tre...n/MS00-075.asp |

Here is the exact link it gives me when it resets my homepage: res://mshp.dll/index.html#10213
Inside that DLL is the html to all the popup pages I get and the homepage it resets to. Ive tried deleting this dll but it keeps coming back. |
it'll be in your registry then.. I had my homepage hijacked then.. and no matter what I did it kept coming back.. annoying it was... only the latest adware seemed to be able to find it, update your adware and then give it another shot :)
