Help with my network
I currently have a 4 port linksys router that has lost two of it's connections. So I went out and bought a wireless router. I can't get it to work. When I get everything setup and do everything according to the directions the light on my modem starts flashing like it doesn't have a signal. It is the same if I hook the modem directly to my computer. The only way it seems to get a signal is if it is hooked up to the old router. Do I have to delete my old setting to get a new one going? Help would be very good. Oh and the new wireless router is B if that helps.

Make sure that the MAC address that the New router is cloning is the same as the one your old router was. Also make sure that the cable used is correct (this would be suprising since you are using the same one, but you never know) Also make sure it is a Wireless ROUTER and not a Wireless ACCESSPOINT Big difference hehe

Well everything has gone down the pooper again. I have no idea what is going on. For some reason when the new router is hooked up the light on my modem just flashes like it doesn't have a signal. It works fine with the old router though. I have installed new firmware. Set the mac address. tried all kinds of cables. reset everything. I don't know what is wrong.

Try connecting one computer directly to your modem, and see if that works. If not, then try calling your ISP and let them know that your having problems. If it does work then your router is having some type of problem.
If your Internet light is blinking, the problem might not be anything on your network.

I tried hooking up the modem directly to my PC and it doesn't work. I can get the internet to work on my old router that only has 2 ports left that work though. Does that make sense? Why would the internet only be able to work when it's hooked up to that router. Maybe I need a new modem or something I don't know.

I wish I knew enough to help..I had a helluva time getting the TKIP enabled at first on my wireless, then the Gateway was not assigned by DCHP at first. As far as I can tell, after I got the TKIP set right, I just kept going in circles, repeating the same steps (correctly and consistently I think), until the DCHP assigned a Gateway correctly. All I can say is set up a new network with the Connection Wizard and if it's wireless disable/enable the connection while watching the "support" tab in the Network Connection Status box. (The one that has the IP, subnet mask, etc.) <- this is probably really obvious to you, but I felt the need to share, hehe.

i have some suggestions to what might be your problem. From my field of work i've been told to put the router on a higher platform than your computer such as a shelf or something like that because computers can still cause interruptions. Next if you live near a Cell phone tower then that would be another problem because the signal from a cell phone call will create a spike within your router signal and then the signal will be lost. another thing is to make sure that it's not near any high power source because electricity radiates and can cause interruptions even for direct connections through cables. and if i can think of anything else i'll let you know. i hope that helps.
