ive got a Motorola SB4100 for use with my roadrunner cable internet connection. it can be connected to a computer via USB cable or via cat-5 to a NIC card.

so, the question is this: with two computers on hand, can both be online simultaneously, one via network cable while the other is connected via usb?

im gonna try it out later this evening. just wondered if anyone here knew if it was possible, and if so, what difficulties I might run into.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. You could connect to cat-5 cable to a router then connect the router to other computers and then use the USB for another non-connected computer. I actually think a friend of mine crashed Comcast in my town from trying this and it wasn't for a couple of minutes. It was several hours.

Hah..that was me.
I doubt it that I caused it. It was an odd coincidence though. I plugged in one computer with USB and the other one with Cat-5. The second I booted them up, my internet connection was lost. I then called up 2 of my friends saying they too have lost their internet connection.

Ever since that day, I'm afraid of going one with Cat-5 and the other one with USB. I just went ahead and bought a router.

Only if you pay for two IP addresses will it be a possiblity. Just buy a router or a swith.
