Yet another monitor thread...
Hi all, I'm in the position to buy a new monitor and I figure I'll let my good trusted friends here at TFP give it a go. Here are the conditions:
It HAS to be a flat panel monitor. It HAS to be 17" or up. I would prefer spending less than $700. I would also prefer DVI input. I'm a gamer, so I would like a decent game monitor (<20ms refresh, right?) If at all possible, I would like component or composite inputs so I can play console games on it if the TV is being used, but that's not necessary at all, mearly a plus. Here is a pretty good candidate and it looks like it's PACKED with features, but I've never heard of it, and Newegg only has the picture of it in the box. What gives with that? Anyway, I would love to hear some recommendations from you guys (but, please no "Get a CRT" comments, I already have one...that's why I want an LCD). |
the Dell Ultrasharp series meets those requirements, and is known for good quality. whether or not dell will sell it alone... well, you'll have to check, im not sure. if not, i think they're rebranded anyway, so look that up

Ive always heard good things about Viewsonic and Samsung. We use 19" Viewsonics at work, and they kick all ass.

I got a samsung 19inch at work (SyncMaster 955DF).
I liked it so much I went out and bought one for home too, I think it cost me about $350CDN. I play lots of games on it at home and I have zero complaints about it (BTW, UT2K4 kicks ass). Oh wait...you want an LCD, well ignore what I just said then...mine's a CRT. |
I sent you a PM glytch. I have new LCD you may be interested in.

I have two Samsung 174v, they're usually about $500, but I paid $300 for each after rebates (yay, rebates)
They're (supposedly) 20ms screens, but I do see a bit of ghosting when I'm zoomed all way in on moving audio tracks. The downside (for you) is that they're analog input only, no DVI. Samsung rocks, though MPEDrummer |
Thanks for the PM messy, I think I'll take you up on that offer.

I recently bought the Samsung SyncMaster 213T (21")
It is only at 25ms but I read several reviews that claimed that it looked great in gaming anyway. I am really happy after 2 months now. I play FPS games and car-games without seeing any problems. Maybe my head is slow though... |
