MDAC - friend or foe?

I've got a friend trying to develop an SDK that makes database programming a little easier (C# .NET) - seeing as I only do Classic and never do anything out of the ordinary - I'm not much help in this matter.

What he's looking for - is if he wants to sell this SDK of his, part of the samples include the creation of a simple CRM package. Since MS has a CRM product, and MDAC states that you cannot create something that uses MDAC that will compete with an MS product - does this kill his chances with this SDK?

If anyone can help out - we'd be much obliged.
(Me? I'm just curious as hell since I've been banging my head against this question for awhile now, so I'd kinda like to know the answer)

I'm curious exactly how your friend's SDK would be superior to ADO.Net.

Sorry about the late reply - haven't been on this board for a little while.

From my Developers

dynamic forms( no hard-coding with great amounts of re-coding), create forms on the fly because they're database based
ado.net can do all that but it takes a great deal of programming. The focus is increased ROI due to maximizing time management and minimizing time spent of database operations....time that can be dedicated to business logic.

From the SDK guy himself:

This question is probably asked by someone uses .net and ado.net (ADO.NET is almost identical to OLEDB ADO Recordset) with at most 1 or 2 database tables in 1 or 2 web forms. In such case, yes, go ahead and use ADO.NET. Using DataWiz in such case will save you about an hour of coding I guess (even in such case though, no coding is necessary in DataWiz what so ever - sample DataWiz Link will do).

When the database starts becoming complicated (dozens of linked tables), the last thing you want to do is writing queries like "select a, b, c, .... from ((A left outer join B on A.id=B.som_field) AS ALIAS2 inner join C on ALIAS2.xxx=C..x..." and scratching your head why you are not getting any data back - while they are writing code and debugging, we could be deploying. And this is just one side of the coin. DataWiz also provides UI and takes care of all user interactivities. You can create an ASP page, drop bunch of TextBoxes on the form and Save button. On button event, you can write a query and check if there is a duplicate E-mail address and give warning, etc. But do you want to do this for every forms when DataWiz can do this automatically?

And thx to Gek2, new controls are added: Timesheet, Calendar (with Events - .NET calendar only allows you to display dates), Year Calendar, and Compound Calendar (composition of previous 3 with tab) = and these controls bind to DataWiz database with 1 line of code . Moreover DataWiz also provides very useful Image tab controls, and Rollover image buttons. None of these are available in .NET - you will probably have to purchase 3rd party developer tools.

I wouldn't dare to attempt to create simple applications like IRS without it.

Further clarifications:

Gek2 is the company I'm heading up to create Software using this SDK. (I'm the one establishing contacts and a customer base)

Datawiz is the beta name of the SDK - we'll probably have to change it seeing as I just saw something on Google with the same name.

The IRS Software he was talking about is short for "Internal Repository Server" which is an ongoing project for use at work to keep track of sample code, internal documentation and who's working on what to reduce duplication of work.
