Interesting Problem I've Got Here

As with the other thread that no one replied to, I recently purchased my new motherboard and processor.

Abit NF7-S V2
AMD Athlon XP Barton 2500+

Anyway, whenever I listen to music on my computer, the sound quality is excellent. The motherboard has excellent sound. But, whenever I start typing (i.e. on forums, or a paper, or anything) the sound starts to skip and bleep and tear. My mp3s sound like trash whenever I type. They scratch, skip, bleep and tear constantly whenever I am using the keyboard. Any suggestions?

Also, when playing Battlefield 1942, my sound bleeps and scratches also. This problem is more dominant whenever a rocket flys by my face or a truck drives by. Maybe it has something to do with surround sound or something? I don't have surround sound.....

I installed the drivers that came with the motherboard.

I have the Bose Companion 3® speaker setup.

Thanks everyone

ok, I fixed the music clipping problem (so far anyway). I reintalled the drivers, and it's fixed. no idea what was causing the problem.

the BF1942 thing is still messed up though. and I tried enabling Hardware Acceleration and it didn't help.

Do you have the latest patch for BF1942?

Redjake 02-14-2004 02:32 PM

yep, all the patches are updated for BF and Desert Combat

ok now the mp3s are messing up all the time, whether I am typing or not. and ALL my games are messing up with the sound, not just BF anymore. anyone have any suggestions or heard of the problem?

I reinstalled the motherboard drivers. Didn't help. I'm using the onboard sound.

I suggest to place a heatsink (small northbridge style) on your nforce chip, this fixed some of the problems you are refering to that I had.

The chip overheats, and starts to skip, tear, and etc.

hmm.....it already has a fan on it with thermal grease.......I didn't know they got that damn hot......

I'll try it as soon as my check goes through though, it will look cool anyway :)

anyone else have any remedies?

just making sure we are talking about the same thing, this is the chip thats belwo the AGP slot, right of the PCi, above the one that says NF7-S.

Redjake 02-14-2004 08:20 PM

oh I thought you were talking about the chipset.

I didn't realize that chip got hot? if it does get so hot that it messes up my sound, why doesn't it come with a fan and/or heatsink to begin with?

Question that i've wondered my self, but I've seen it happen on not just this motherboard.

It seems to be a nforce audio type thing.
