Computer building help
Okay so I'm building my new computer and I had a big problem. Abit NF7-S, Barton 2500+, thermalright heatsink, Antec true 430 PSU, Geil gold dragon DDR 3200, Geforce FX5700.
It never POST'ed correctly, the first time my Barton 2500+ posted as an 1100 mhz and the Gig of Geil ram was detected at 980KB? After that the keyboard wouldn't detect and on the third try I got really crazy characters on the monitor. The characters were things like diamonds and such that I had seen since early DOS games and they were 8 different colors, then VGA wouldn't show when I rebooted and tried again. The motherboard would start screeching when I started the computer, eventhough I had on a massive heatsink/fan/thermal grease. I then reapplied grease and the screeching stopped, unfortunatly it wouldn't beep at all after that. I tried another video card (PCI) on the motherboard and VGA wouldn't work then either. I RMA'ed the motherboard thinking it was bad and I'm really worried that multiple components might be shot (video card, ram ect) Edit: Upon inspected the chip I noticed one of the corners, on the core, has a tiny, tiny bit missing, is that what fucked my entire system ?

The 1100 MHz thing with the Barton happened to me, I restarted the computer a couple of times and it started recognizing it as a 2500+ @ 1.83 GHz. Not sure what fixed it.
My Abit (same model) came with a bent chipset fan that squealed whenever it turned on, I popped it off and bent the housing on the fan up a bit and it stopped making the noise.
