Is there a better 85$ value than GeForce Ti4200 64meg?
I'm probably gonna buy this card for my bro. He doesn't wanna spend 180 bucks or so to get a Radeon FX 5900 (I wanted to flash the bios and overclock it to 5950 speeds), and newegg has the GeForce Ti4200 64MB card for about 85 bucks.
I know Newegg isn't the cheapest, but the 128 mb version on pricewatch for 95 or so looks REALLY shady, since all other 128 mb versions seem to cost more in the 120 range. In a year or so, I'll probably get him the 5900 and flash it, or, depending on specs from ATI (what is it, the Radeon 9800?) maybe I could get their card and flash and oc it too. The point is, from what I read that Ti4200 kills the Radeon 5200, and the directx 9 support on the low budget radeon cards is really a joke. While 64mb seems like a small bit of ram to me (128 seems a comfortable number--I know that no one needs 256), from what I hear the 4200Ti is easily overclockable to 4600 speeds? Anyway, wanted to know your thoughts, and unless you guys know of some INSANE deal on a card, I probably can't go over 85 bucks. Any suggestions/ATI alternatives that are better for this price? I DO plan on overclocking. Why not? |

$85? The TI4200 is the absolute best, no question about it.
There have even been reports that the 64 MB version is more powerful than the 128 MB version in some tests. I shit you not! For $85, that card can't be beat. I do believe the TI4400 is the easily overclockable one, however. Mine won't go very far before shitting out. -Lasereth

I've had a Ti4200 since last May, and I can't think of anything bad to say about it, I thought $100 or so back then was a great deal too, for $85, I'd jump on it.
