Cold Fusion
 

Hey all. I just thought I'd start a thread for anybody working with Cold Fusion and see if there was anybody else using Cold Fusion. Occassionally I could always use a hand and would be more than happy to offer a helping hand.

Hey, used to use ColdFusion before :) I love its simplicity and tag-based syntax. Unfortunately, operating costs were high so we switched to PHP :) But I'd also be happy to lend a hand to anyone needing help with ColdFusion if I still remember it as in-depth as I did before.

i just started using cold fusion again for the first time since 1998. it has come a long way, the new server is really sweet.

we switched from php because of open source security problems. i like it plenty, it is way more friendly than asp and the integration with html means you don't have to go echoing and escaping characters all the time, which was a real pain in the ass with php. developing in dreamweaver mx is very nice too.

i'd still use php on message boards or non critical apps, or maybe on an intranet inside a good firewall, but we found that running a business critical linux-apache-mysql-php site was like wearing a tshirt with a bullseye at a dart tournament. every wannabe cracker was tossing darts at us.

I'm a coldfusion convert, after working years with ASP. A friend of mine pointed out CF to me, and I haven't looked back since. The simplicity truly allows for easy rapid application development, and I find myself completing entire sites in 1/5 the time it used to take.

I just started using ColdFusion about 2 months ago, only because I was re-designing a site that used ColdFusion. I haven't had much time to sit down and learn it properly, but can do enough to modify applications and build simple new ones. If I could just make it through the Forta book...

My name is br00n and I am a CF programmer; amongst other things. Ya, I've been working with CF since 1995 (version 1.0) .

It sure has changed over the years. CF has become more capable and faster with every new version. The latest MX release is very hard to beat for speed, rapid appliction development and security. (Ya, I know, nothing is 100% secure) but you have to admit CF pretty much rocks when it comes to designing, developing and deploying solid, scalable apps and doing it fast.

Sure, PHP is good too. The new version is cool. I have clients that won;t let me use it...no support, no php...

C#(.net). Very cool...very capable, huge functionality...nowhere as fast to develop an app in as CF, but done right it rocks too.

In the end, all of the languages and app. servers are like tools of varying shape and weight...you just have to be able to pick the right one for the job.

But I always come back to CF...always.

I left ColdFusion quite a while back for PHP. My coding costs dropped immensely in a matter of the week it took me to get used to the marginally different syntax and commands. Free (speech, beer) vs. $800 for the version of StudioMX that only lets me serve CF pages to...myself...
