Help using bittorrent
Please help. Either me or my computer is retarded. I can't get Bittorrent to work. I've downloaded the client, installed it, basically followed all of this (up through step 4) but when I click on any link to start downlading a file, all I get is a 7 or 8k file, which the computer usually thinks is a movie, and then it says that it can't play because of an unsupported format. I've even looked at The FAQ to no avail. Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong or missing?

apparently the client did not integrate itself into the browser as the post suggested it would. To compensate: try executing the btdownloadgui.exe in the bittorrent folder like the post said you shouldn't have to.
I don't have that client but my guess is: let it open the small .torrent file you downloaded, and it should start automatically.

I know how frustrating it is when you ask for help with something and then someone says "download this instead," so please understand that the fact that I'm saying it here means I *REALLY* believe you should and that it's WELL worth it.
Get http://www.torrentstorm.com/ It's a lot better than any other torrent client I've used and it also has a nice, easy button to associate .torrent files with it in the settings.

(I'll assume you are on Windows.) Go to Windows Explorer, Tools>Folder Options>File Types, and find TORRENT in the alphabetical list. On my computer, TORRENT is assigned to open with 'btdownloadgui". I'm guessing yours is incorrect. Try changing that and see if it works. |
