network cutting out
I have a network of about 11 Computers. I run two Phobe Octopus 8 port 10/100 switches. Have a 100ft crossover between them. And all computer connected with cat5 cables. '
Problem is i just recently added 2 computers and some reason ill have it working. restart the computer and i wont be able to log onto the network. But the realy weird thing is it will let other computer log on my shares. Just shows me as the only computer on the network. This happening on both of the new comps i added. Im runing mostly win92se. If upgrading to 2000 pro would help out i will do it. LEt me know if you guys know how to fix my problem

I was having the same problem on my network, only 5 machines though. Upgraded all of them to XP Pro and no problems after that. The main problem is having win98 interfacing with 2000 and XP. As long as everything is 2000 or XP you should be fine.

I have seen that networking win9x machines will work better if you have the netbeui protocol installed on all the machines. For some reason I have had issues with plain tcp/ip networks with peer to peer networks, so running netbeui (and maybe netbios) at least helps windows to find the other pc's on the network.
