god forsaken camera card reader...

We bought a new digital camera, and a device, made my dazzle, that plugs into the USB slot, and then reads the Flash card.

Well, that damn thing wont work right.

If you put the card in, it will read it, sometimes, but then if you take any pictures with it, and try again, it either tells you it isnt ready, or it asks you to reformat the card..

Any idea what the deal is?

P-O-S?

I had a generic card reader (Comotron) that had issues like what you describe. I recently bought a reader from ATech which has been flawless. No drivers required - just plug into Windows or Mac and go.

I've copied and deleted files from SD cards that are used in my Pentax Optio S and my Palm T3 - no problems. I've moved cards to and from the reader to the devices and back again - no problems.

For me, Windows XP will recognize that the card is formatted, that it has something on it, but won't list the files. It's RAW file system, and I don't know why XP won't see it.

if it's usb, then you are supposed to "end the device" usage before unhooking it.

it is usually in the systray and will give you an option to turn it off.

this might be the problem.

I have the same reader and have had the same problems.....

now if I can just remember how I fixed it...I know I assigned drive (E) to it, and you have to turn the machine off to make it pick up the drivers and let PLUG AND PLAY find it..I believe I reloaded the software a second time...

I am only glad that I got it free with the mail in rebate...I would never have another one...BTW did you realize that you can put the Smart Card in upside down?..

OH S.. the damn thing is not working again...will get back to you on this one..

My Sandisk reader is USB and flakes out on my all the time. I don't even pay attention to it anymore.

I just go into device manager, uninstall it and then re-install it.

USB is known to be flakey. I just got used to it.

It may be the fact that Im in the stone age with win 98 still..

I deleted everything on the card, and it works again. Perhaps it just wont work with it close to full.

Also, it is just a plug and play, and worked fine when we first started using it. Problems started to occur in the last cuple of weeks.

Bingo---got it to work...

reinstalled the software and got the blue screen of death---normal SOP for this old Dell---shut it all the way down and let it reboot....and make sure the corner notch on the card is DOWN..

Yea, those USB ports can be a little flacky sometimes..I have a 4 port expander so I can run my Iomega zip disc, printer, and dazzle out of the USB ports....(I can see a New DELL 4600 in my future)...

Wish I could get 98-SE on my new machine,,,,but thats just me..
