Desperate need of help fellow TFP'ers
Here's the situation. I have two computers on the network. The family computer and my own. I just reformatted my own computer (it had internet access before the process).
Now, after the reformat is all done, I don't have internet access on my computer. I am typing on my family's computer right now. We have cogeco cable internet. This is the direct source and my computer is hooked up via a hub. Are there any ideas? Please help! |

Check to make sure the drivers for your NIC are properly installed.
Make sure you are receiving an IP from you ISP or router (use, ipconfig) Make sure the wires are all in place and the LEDs on your NIC and routers are lighting up for the connection. Run the Internet connection setup wizard. Make sure you can ping the loopback address (127.0.0.1) If using 802.11b or g, make sure your WEP is enabled with the correct key. Tell us the results of the above steps.

yeah especially if the computers are running on different operating systems, it's important to run the network setup wizard on both computers.
That's what I had to do once to get my computer on our network working. It comes with windows XP and I think you can use it off of the XP disc to install all the needed things onto the other computer. This is, of course, assuming they are two different operating systems. You might wanna try it anyways though. Sorry I don't remember specifics on where to find it... |
