What is your preferred browser?
Poll is just that... what is your preferred browser?
Personally, I prefer Mozilla Firebird http://www.mozilla.org/products/firebird/ for the following reasons: - multi-platform - fast rendor time - tabbed browsing - built-in popup blocker What's yours? edit: Netscape *IS* Mozilla, and added Konqueror/Safari Last edited by juanvaldes; 01-27-2004 at 08:37 PM.. |

Totally love firebird EXCEPT The session management thing which is totally brain-dead.
What do you MEAN I can't have more than one instance of it running at once inside "my" session!? I can have more than one WINDOW open on it at once! I use Firebird when I need something standards-compliant, and Galeon (which is a Mozilla-derived browser for the Gnome desktop) for stuff I leave up all the time (my company extranet, for instance) so it doesn't take up my one precious Firebird session. |

Mozilla Firebird, and here's why:
Diggler - Diggler is a small but powerful add-on for Mozilla and Netscape. It adds a button next to the location bar which can clear the location bar (much like the one in Konqueror) but also drops down a menu with some useful actions such as being able to disable popup windows and navigate to parent directories in URLs (handy for FTP operations and nested sites). Screenshots ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Linky- Linky is a very simple addon to the context menu that provide you with the following: Opens all links in a selection in new tabs or windows Finds and opens link in plain text in a new tab or window Opens all links on page in new tabs or windows Open all links that appears to be linking to an image in new tabs or windows Shows all links that appears to be linking to an image in one new tab or window Open all links that appears to be linking to an image in one new tab or window Select links Dialog Preferences panel Screenshots ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Leech- If you have ever wanted a quick way to download all the files (images, video clips, zip archives, etc.) from a single page, then the leech add-on is for you. It integrates wget into the right click menu so you can launch it on a page in a single click. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- SpiderZilla- Integrates Httrack into Mozilla's tools menu. Good for a quick and dirty download, but lacks the customization the full version has. Screenshot -------------------------------------------------------------------------- And the best tool of all.. RefSpoof- An integrated URL spoofer! Screenshot -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Add to this the default stuff like popup blocking and protection from various ActiveX objects and Spyware this is THE browser to look for porn on the web. In my tutorial I already cover Linky, an addon that allows you to open multiple links in a tab or tabs. The problem is that if you find sets that aren't directly linked as jpg, e.g. hotchick.html where the HTML contains the jpg and prevents leeching youre screwed. Not anymore. Tab Downloader is an add-on for Mozilla and Netscape 7.0 that allows you to automatically save the content of all tabs that follow the current tab. This makes it very easy to bulk download images from websites, especially when used in conjunction with background tab loading. http://www.bengoodger.com/software/t.../mozilla.shtml It's exclusively made for Firebird(Phoenix) now but there are older version that are for Mozilla. I'm using it to rip a site by hand and it's already saved me 800 right click save as

IE. I used Opera for about half a year because of the little gestures but it kept giving me problems so I made the hard switch back to IE.

I've been using Opera for a while...
tried using Firebird yesterday, but getting it to do what i want was proving to be very frustrating, so I'm giving up until they refine it a bit more and the plugin/theme/etc developers catch up a bit. ![]()

Isn't Opera kinda like IE? I mean after all, when I installed Opera I noticed how much similaries between Opera and IE until I realize Opera was borrowing components of IE. I think that's a bit of a rip off.
I used Netscape but it kinda suck, especially if it doesn't like you use the keyboard to navigate around the internet. Eg: Use Backspace to return to previous page, etc etc I'm a IE user because I'm one of those kind of people that likes to suck up to Microsoft :P

I use Konqueror 99% of the time. IE for IE-specific sites, and Mozilla for the few sites left that Konqy doesn't render correctly.

Personally I don't think they are all that similar. Btw: I most often use Opera but does not show all sites correctly. Most of these use specific 'tricks' IE introduced... For this I use Konquerer. (mainly online banking)

I voted for Opera, but after seeing these responses I decided to give Firebird a go. I have to say, I like it and there's only a couple things bothering me. Sometimes on certain pages, Mozilla doesn't like to download from links, which isn't a big problem, I can switch to IE for that one thing. Something I would really like to know though....How do I get the links I click on to open in a new tab instead of a whole new window? This was one of the features in Opera I guess I took for granted. Is there any way to do this in Firebird?

Firebird. I finally switched over about six hours ago. the most recent security hole in IE was what made me get of my ass and do it. I'm already enjoying it.

I use normal mozilla, I don't know if opera has the ability to set e minimum font-size, I know firebird sure dosent, and thats one of the features I _really_ need.
Combined with tabbrowser extentions, it's a great browser ![]()

Mozilla Firebird kicks ass. Lean, Mean, multiplatform... it rocks. I'm waiting for a version 0.9 to be released though, since they'll probably start charging for it from v1.0.
I'm a dotcommunist, baby. Everything on the internet should be free (or at least paid for by someone else, especially if that someone is Microsoft).

Hate to say it, but I use IE under XP. I don't feel like dealing with file association hijacking and other fun stuff that goes on with using other browsers (ie: bloatware). I suppose Firebird would be fine.
However, I use Safari under OS X and occasionally Firebird.

I use MyIE2.
I tried many others, but MyIE2 works very well for me, and does everything I need in a browser.

Thanks, hammer4all, that'll work. I'm still not sold on Firebird though. I definately notice the speed increase, especially when loading many pictures on a page (Opera likes to stall for a little bit for some reason), but the mouse gestures and a few other minor things are probably going to make me go back to using Opera.
