Thanks, hammer4all, that'll work. I'm still not sold on Firebird though. I definately notice the speed increase, especially when loading many pictures on a page (Opera likes to stall for a little bit for some reason), but the mouse gestures and a few other minor things are probably going to make me go back to using Opera.
Mouse gestures are available for Firebird too. You just have to install the extension. :)

Oh I have the mouse gesture extension. It's just not, in my opinion, implemented as well as Opera's.

nanofever 02-01-2004 12:41 PM

Mozilla, because I like knowing what URL I'm really at.

SonicRL 02-01-2004 01:48 PM

I personally just use IE6 because I'm too lazy to try any other ones xD. Although I used to use Opera, but after I reformatted, I just stuck with IE.

02-01-2004 04:15 PM

Using IE but I was thinking about switching to FireBird. but then I heard that Roboform does not work with it so for now im sticking with IE.

I'm a dotcommunist, baby. Everything on the internet should be free (or at least paid for by someone else, especially if that someone is Microsoft).

Where did you hear this? I haven't heard anything of the sort and, frankly, highly doubt it's true.

Mozilla

Features/options and why i love mozilla

1 animations only run once "Checked" cause i hate annoying smiley animaged gifs
2 only show images from url's orignating server "checked" good bye most ads.
3 surpress pop ups (save for allowed sites) "checked"
and the most important feature and why i can never use IE as the last version i tried didn't have it.

4 Tabbed Browsing!!

mrap1 02-01-2004 06:41 PM

MIE2, it offers the conveniece of being IE compliant but it adds a hell of a lot more features to it. MYIE2 now is what IE will be in the future.

Mastershredder 02-01-2004 08:50 PM

CrazyBrowser all the way. www.crazybrowser.com :)

BoCo 02-01-2004 09:22 PM

IE6.

bobson 02-02-2004 05:59 PM

Opera 7...im an Opera fan, have been for a while now..
considering giving Firebird a try, because ive heard good things, but for now, Opera is my baby.

Or at least what it should be.

MyIE2 spanks IE in terms of features but MS doesn't seem to be that worried. In their minds the browser war is over so they can't justify spending more money on R&D for IE.

kapoho 02-04-2004 08:47 AM

I use Opera 7 99% of the time. IE for windows updates and certain sites that only work with IE.

Confederate 02-04-2004 08:52 AM

I also use IE6 i have no problem with it at all, so why fix what isn't broken?

laconic1 02-04-2004 01:02 PM

I use Firebird. I usually hit F11 as soon as I open the browser and I like having the address bar even with the browser full screened. Also tabbed browsing, and a better "feel" to it than with IE.

mgcloud 02-08-2004 11:05 PM

A vote for firebird here :) Compliance to HTML standards and not to poorly written code is my favourite thing about it (along with teh tabs/auto popup killing)

Yea, I also highly doubt that firebird will be a non-free browser in the future because it's released under a public license. Even if it becomes commercial software (not likely), anyone can jsut take the code from previous releases (or even cvs if lucky) and rebuild the software under a different name.

PorscheBunny 02-09-2004 03:17 PM

Mozilla 1.2.1 - the last version made for my computer's OS.

I really need to upgrade.

BenChuy 02-10-2004 05:56 AM

safari. a fantastic and uber-functional browser.

SecretMethod70 02-10-2004 06:57 AM

FireFOX baby! :D

k1ng 02-10-2004 07:10 AM

Ok, so i'm really digging Firefox. I've never even heard of it until I saw this post. Thanks guys =)

One big thing I've found so far that I can't do is go to other networked computers using Firefox.

With IE I could just type: \\test in the address bar and it would take me to tests's shared files. Firefox would not allow me to do this.

Is there a way to do it in Firefox?

Thanks!

ToolBag 02-10-2004 07:11 AM

There could possibly be an extension for this, I really have no idea but keep an eye on the site as traffic slows down and the extension page may be back up shortly.

That's likely because IE is integrated into the OS (see the issues behind the most recent Microsoft anti-trust trial which was going wonderfully until Asscroft took over the DOJ). Perhaps there may be an extension to add that functionality but I doubt it.

deepinjello 02-11-2004 08:42 AM

I'm an Opera man, myself.

Prince 02-14-2004 08:40 PM

I've tried several...always keep coming back to IE, though. Tried Firebird before the new release, last year sometime, didn't like it, hated the tab thing... Am giving it another try now, we'll see... Lots of people argue over which browser is best...and a lot of folks say IE is shit simply because it's hip to bash Microsoft... But really, the only way you're going to find the browser of your dreams is by using the same method you use to find the girl of your dreams... You try one, and another, and another, until the one that tickles you right comes along.

KUGR 02-15-2004 01:27 AM

Mine is Firebird/fox :) Tabbed browsing, pop-up/ad blocking, and all the other awesome features just cant be beat!!!

Gotenks 02-15-2004 03:36 AM

IE w/ google bar!

panmunjom 02-15-2004 04:21 AM

IE6 with Google toolbar and <a href="http://www.proximatron.org">Proximatron</a>.

Finchie 02-15-2004 10:25 AM

Firefox with Tabbrowser extensions. I used to be a big fan of Avantbrowser, but it continually made my computer screen black for some reason.

brandon11983 02-15-2004 10:41 AM

Firefox is kickin my ass. I love it.

eyeronic 03-02-2004 10:12 PM

Is Mozilla Firebird going to mess with normal surfing for a somewhat clueless web surfer? (Like myself) i.e., is it as easy to use and doesn't mess up on simple websites as IE?

Eye use IE6, but don't particularly like or dislike it.

Latch 03-02-2004 10:59 PM

eyeronic.. you'll want Firefox, not Firebird. Firebird is the name of an older version.

Firefox shouldn't mess with you too much. Check out the Mozilla Firefox thread that's on the front page (at the moment) for people's reviews/questions/etc.

_the_wombat 03-02-2004 11:23 PM

I use Firefox for most things. It has trouble some stuff I do regulary, IE fills in.

Bugs and all I think it's pretty nice. :)

Sledge 03-04-2004 09:28 PM

I tried switching over from MyIE2 to FireFox, but it didn't really work out. MyIE2 has all the features of FireFox and loads just as fast. The only thing I realllly like about FireFox is the speed with which it displays web pages. That shit is hot.

HeAtHeN 03-04-2004 10:53 PM

I use Opera 7.5 for just about everything. There are some sites that are still wonky and I have to use IE but not many.

Opera is the shit....

elko64 05-13-2005 01:53 PM

web browsers

what web browsers are you guys and girls useing, i am useing firefox at present but still have to use ie for some web sites and for microsoft updates.
has anybody found any better browsers?

connyosis 05-13-2005 02:40 PM

Using Firefox under Linux here, my girlfriend uses firefox under XP. We have no need for IE at all, which is nice.

aberkok 05-13-2005 03:04 PM

Don't forget about the other threads that have covered this topic before :)

You'll find plenty of opinions there. The most notable recent one I believe is:

d4in 05-19-2005 01:24 PM

firefox 1.0.4 here, thunderbird for mail client, life is good

extensions = BugMeNot, Flashblock, Adblock, & Autocopy

sashime76 05-20-2005 04:00 AM

Firefox all the way except when I upload pictures to Yahoo Photos. Upload tool isn't available for Firefox yet. Don't feel like selecting pictures one by one.

MikeSty 05-20-2005 11:47 AM
