how would i go about finding out if my CPU is overclocked, because for some reason it is having a major problem overheating for no reason. it is a Toshiba laptop 5505-S504 if that helps any. it is really starting to irritate me because i have to have like a fan blowing on the intake for the fan, and i cannot run too many programs or anything like that beacuse it just over heats its self.

any help on this would be great

If you know what the clock speed of the processor is supposed to be all you have to do is run a progam like WCPUID search google for the download. It will show you what the cpu is running at which you can compare to the default speed.

it seems to be at the speed it was said to be. what else could be the problem, the fan is on at full speed all the time and yet it doens't help cooling it

what are you setting it on while using it? most laptops have vents on the bottoms and sides... if these vents are covered at all it could be causing the problem...

I'm going to suggest getting powerstrip (a nice utility tool) to see the cpu setting of your laptop.

i have it sitting on a desk, and the intake is on the left side toward the back with the exhause being on the back left side

Chances are it could just be clogged with alot of dust...maybe time to open up and blow out. perhaps the bearings on the cpu fan are shot.

that would suck, i tried to take the bottom of the case off but it was still secured, do you know of where i could get the building specs for it to locate all the screws on the bottom to release it?

what would u recomend doing with the power strip program. i tried to turn down the processor and memory usage but it just messed up and my comp crashed.

how much would it be to get a cpu fan replaced. (this is for a laptop)

Do a visual inspection of all the air vents/entrances on the bottom of the laptop. For mobile electronics like laptops, and due to the nature of hot air (rises) the intake vents are on the bottom and the exit vents are on the sides/back. If you notice that there are clogged vents, I would suggest cleaning them out with a small set of hemostats or tweezers.

It is possible that you have clogs inside of the case.

Though, does your fan turn on as the laptop heats up? Does the fan operate at all?

Does your bios have a setting where you can set the fan threshhold temperature? (The temperature in which the fan turns on)

the fan is on full all the time from what i can tell. and it just seems to be getting worse. like i had cold (0.C) air blowing on it and it still shut down

How old is your t0p? Sitll under warranty?

If not.. ..are you comfortable with a partial disassembly?

its not under warranty, i took the bottom of the case off as much as i could. im very comfortable with disassembly (is an engineer) but i dont have access to one of the panals which has a locking hex screw in it and i have no clue as to where to find one that small.
