Gentoo on PPC
So has anyone tried it?
I am getting bored with OS X and fink for all of my linuxy needs. I also am wondering if it might make my iBook a bit more responsive by using g3 specific compilations of most applications. Thoughts?

Gentoo on PPC is not ready for primetime, I need to give the installation another go, but that is my first impression. Documentation is incorrect and contradictory, hardware detection non-existant, and there is no guide to how the driver and kernel support is setup, what you need and what you don't.
Various kernel components can conflict with each other, and custom compilation is necessary to support basic features.

Okay, so I am giving it another go. I am going to use some config files made by someone l33ter than me to build the kernel (he had the same model iBook.
Right now I get a kernel panic mounting the root filesystem (the kernel on the livecd has no trouble). I formatted it in ext3 which I thought I had built into the kernel.
