Athlon64
Hey folks,
Just got a quick question on the Athlon 64. I know that Linux Kernels are just starting to show up for it, but what about Windoze? Will a stock XP disk do the job or will I need something else? Gracias in advance! Veritas en Lux! Jimmy The Hutt |
If Im not mistaken, the new Athlon 64s will run in 32bit to support current generations of hardware and software. However, to answer your question, no, the standard Windows XP will not run in 64bit mode.

Edit: Sailor420 beat me to the punch. But I beat him to the URL. :)

Yeah, Athlon 64's run on all existing software. The 64-bit capabilities simply won't be used until 64-bit software comes out. Your XP disc will work fine!

Speaking of which, I dont know if it was on this board or another one, but does anyone have a hot beta version of Longhorn? Ive found a few sites that have some real in depth info on it, but they are all conflicting in what they say it will include. Maybe this should just be in a new thread all together.

windows 32 will work fine, 64 won't be out for a while however
