Activating Win 2000 pro?

Anyone else ever have problems activating a Windows 2000 Pro? Everything seems to be going fine until the user attempts to use the update service and then it craps out. Never heard of such a thing on a 2000 machine.

I thought only XP had that crappy activation thing.

There is no activation on Win 2000. Sounds like the updater is corrupt. Instead of using the updater, just download the latest SP and install.

I thought so too. I know that the newest updater downloads on fresh installs of pre-XP OSes. Do you know of anyway to uninstall this on the 2000 machine to trigger the update and reinstall?

Actually it sounds to me like lovsan. Would create a Denial of Service action when trying to use windows update and might crash the PC. Before you start windows update why don't you check your task manager and see if any funny-looking processes pop up....

That might be the problem because I know that the Office Install craps itself unless you implement a workaround.

Can you give us the error message or explain what you do before the computer goes boom ?

Its a remote system that I was supporting by phone. I can't say, really. I was baffled by it myself. I'll let you all know what it turns out to be as soon as I hear. Strange... On-site tech will see it tomorrow.
