hi... i tried changing my boot screen on my xp home laptop via these instructions... http://www.themexp.org/howto.php .. i followed them precisely and the thing wont boot :( it runs through the boot screen then restarts ... anyone able to help? i dont want to reformat if i can get away with not doing it
|
ok well.. i formated it... thanks to all the people in irc who tried to help (you may add me now to your dumb tech support list :P)
|
Just curious, did you create a backup entry in your boot.ini first?
|
boot.ini... i never touched that...
i followed those instructions exactly.. all i changed was that ntoskrnl or whatever it was |
boco knows of a program that does this for you.
pm him and he'll be glad to help u. |
its called BootXP - do a search on google and it will come up with something. It even puts a backup line on your boot list so you can switch back to default if it borks again.
|
stylexp also lets u change ur bootscreen
|
Heh borked.
Sorry we couldn't be more help jam, but perhaps you should invest in a cd-rom drive for that thing ;) |
BootXP or StyleXP are pretty sure bets. If you decide to do this again without using a program, remember to make a backup entry in your boot.ini that has your original boot loader.
|
An the other hand you can think to youself... Do I REALLY need to change my boot screen since it's not an easy-to-change option in the OS?
I start thinking about things to do with my system then I realize, what sort of pain is it going to cause me? However, my broken system paranoia has me making image backups every few software installs. Anyway, it's nice to start with a fresh copy of XP, no? |
well i bought the laptop from some guy not from a store.. he says he used it less then ten hours.. but i dunno
its a winxp thing and he skinned it all mac os like and its boot screen was an apple... i didnt like that |

I can understand that. StyleXP is coming out with, or has come out with, version 2.0 with more features. I get my themes from their web site. Most are pleasing on the eye, with good contrast. Subtle is the word. |
