My son delete some important files....

So here's the deal, I need some serious help. I don't know what files he deleted, but they have to do with windows.

Here's my crappy system
PII 500
Windows 98, but I think it was updated from 95, I bought this used from a friend who built it, and he is out of town.

So I talked with the systems guy here, he said to re-install 98, I didn't have a disk so he gave me one with a valid key. I tried to unistall 98, but it wouldn't let me. So I just tried to load 98, everything seemed to go good until it asked for the key, and after I entered it, it said it was invalid. Of course the systems guy wasn't in the office today, so I'm turning to all you for some help. What is my next step?

Thanks! Hopefully I can get my machine working correct again!

If you can access Win98 safe mode or even regular running mode, you could use a utility to un-delete the files. There are plenty of them out there... all equally capable.

Windows Xp would make that machine cry, I would suggest WIN2k pro... but then again I have a fun copy of the MSDN 2k suite :) I really love having family in the IT business who pass down fun software, well that and Xdcc bots. :)

If you turn off all of the visual "enhancements", it should run fine. I still wouldnt recommend it, but it should work fine.
