Memory problem
 

I have recently built a new computer and have been having problems getting more than one stick of RAM to work at the same time. The computer will only boot if there is only one stick placed in the DIMM furthest to the left. If I try to install more than one stick, or place it in any other DIMM other than that one the computer either hangs on boot up (if one stick is in the correct slot), or gives me an error beep. At first I thought it might be a problem with that particular motherboard, but after replacing it with another one of the same model and still having the same problem I am out of ideas. My computer's specs are:

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Gigabyte GA-K8NNXP
2x Corsair CMX512RE-3200LL
Powercolor Radeon 9800 Pro

You could try testing the memory with DocMemory you can get it from SimmTester its a good little program for testing ram stick amd its free. Also have you checked your mother boards web site to see if a new BIOS was availble for your board, sometimes updating the BIOS will fix some problems like that.

I have updated the BIOS and I know that both sticks work, but only in that one DIMM.

Back to the basics, but just curious? Have you tried taking out the motherboard's battery? I had a similar problem but I popped out the battery, clicked in both sticks while the battery was still out. Waited about 1 min, popped the battery back in and had no boot up troubles.

The only thing that I've been able to come up with as a possible problem is the fact that my RAM is registered. Unfortunately I don't have any non-registered RAM to test this theory with.
