Spam/Spyware Problem.....
Suddenly I'm getting a ton of "message undeliverable" e-mails in my inbox. The Problem? I never e-mailed anyone one at these addresses.
So this is obviously spam, but I'm thinking that it also could be spyware on my computer (eventhough I have an anti-spyware program, Spybot Search & Destroy). Is there anyway to find out what's going on? |
Have you scanned your hard drives for viruses?
Sounds like you may have a worm. Go to www.antivirus.com or http://security.symantec.com/sscv6/h...JUIYCZRWEJGSSK and do a free online scan just to be sure |
No, I don't think I have a worm. I have Norton 2004 and it does weekly scans (it just did one).
It looks like a spammer is using my email address as a return path, so maybe there'es nothing I can do about it :( |
Block his address.

I had the same problem with my computer last year, I had at the time the most resent verions of Norton 2003 and paid for an extra year of updates. I had a boot sector virus on my computer that norton could not remove. I can not for the life of me remeber the name all I know is that it was some sort of Trojan and anyone and everyone I talked to about it said there was nothing that I could do other then erase my computer run a debug and install everything again. Apparently Norton has a hard time erasing Trojan virus's.

do a search for Adaware, not sure if it will solve your current problem, but a great tool non the less.

i had a worm that did the same thing. Norton didn't find it, but I knew I had it so I tried housecall and got rid of it.
Give it a try, just to be safe. :) |

Thanks for the link LStanley, but, unfortunately, housecall didn't find any viruses. I really hope that I don't have to erase my hardrive. |
I know someone who is dealing with pretty much the same thing, and the weird thing is, it's a Mac running AOL and OS9. Not a combination that I think a worm or trojan would figure out, and I don't know of any free adaware checkers (she already has Norton for viruses).
So, probably just a forged return address. Any advice out there on this? AOL isn't helping her out at all. |
Like Waste said, get AdAware and run that. It will find any programs, registry settings that might be causing some problems, spyware, etc.
|
run your norton and make sure its up to date and I use PestPatrol for any spyware crap on my system and it works great. Check it out and if you need a copy let me know and I can hook ya up.

Maybe I should just change my e-mail address first to see if that helps. Although that would be a pain. Man I hate spammers  |
Have you tried AD aware by lavasoft??

Yeah, along with SPYBOT S&D, NOD32, Norton, Trend Micro's Housecall, Trojan Hunter, Spyware Blaster, and I think that's it. I really am starting to think that I don't have a virus at all and that some spammer just got a hold of my e-mail and is using it as a return address. But I can't be sure. |
