Be amazed by the Sony dancing robots

http://pc.watch.impress.co.jp/docs/2...18/sony_06.wmv

Too cool!

shakran 01-14-2004 09:03 AM

wow! Not long before we have robots in our house to do our housework for us.

BTW, what were they playing that music with? An orignial Nintendo?

Akira 01-14-2004 09:57 AM

Yeah awesome. Those robots are just plain cool. Aren't those the robots that they recently got to run? Cause I'm still waiting for a robot that can run as fast as a human.

SiphonX 01-14-2004 09:57 AM

holy shyt, thats both the coolest AND funniest thing i've ever seen.

phredgreen 01-14-2004 10:00 AM

i'll be damned. i knew they had made them, but i didn't realize how articulate they really were.

next step: make them two hundred feet tall with beam sabres!

Moskie 01-14-2004 10:34 AM

Wow, that was totally awesome.

Be warned tho... first they mesmerize us with their dancing.... then they take over our weapons systems! ;)

Kllr Wolf 01-14-2004 11:41 AM

They dance way better than I do. I am jealous. At least I have a better choice of music. :P

gilada 01-14-2004 01:58 PM

Yeah, they're pretty cool... I think they cost as much as a car, though.

Order_of_Monkey 01-14-2004 03:37 PM

I would like to see them brake dance

bltzkriegmcanon 01-14-2004 03:57 PM

that's scary as fuck. but it's still pretty cool. Those are the kinds of robots that need to be on robot wars. These things would beat the ass of any other robot on there hands down. All they need is some heavy weapons, and bam, world champs.

MontanaXVI 01-14-2004 04:19 PM

I have an AIBO and I do not think it can do that, so it seems they are coming along quite nicely with the automation and robot tech.

sixate 01-14-2004 04:20 PM

I think they're dumb. I would never want a robot running around my crib...

America is the most overweight country on the planet, and when people start using robots to do chores we'll only become lazier and fatter.

Does anyone know how they work? Was that routine programmed or do they have some unbelievable artificial intelligence?

thephuse 01-14-2004 04:58 PM

that is sooo awesome.. w3rd i want one :D:D:D

Halx 01-14-2004 05:12 PM

slim their bodies down, give 'em boobs and make their hips move like a latin rumba dancer... add vagina and we're set

ender0333 01-14-2004 05:23 PM

haha very cool indeed

flamingpeach 01-14-2004 05:38 PM

amazing.

I'm blown away by how they can move so smoothly.

brandon11983 01-14-2004 10:46 PM

If they were ever to be released, I would buy one just to kick its ass on a routine basis for being such a useless piece of shit.

I shudder to think of the money they wasted on a project they have no intentions of selling.

Mr.Deflok 01-15-2004 12:47 AM

I'm not entirely sure but I don't think they're marketing them as the "Ultra Mecha Dancing Robot-su!" it's just the next step up in the evolution of Robotics, won't be surprised if within the next 2-30 years we'll be seeing Mech's the likes that we see in modern-day anime.

All the same, I was VERY impressed by these robots, it's great to see Japan still ahead of the game though I wish the era of the Samurai had never ended, but that's another rant of mine not fit for this thread...

Blistex 01-15-2004 03:52 AM

They should have programmed the two in the front to do a mock fight where they appear to punch and kick and block, but only come to within a few milimetres of touching. THAT would have been really impressive.

Dumb? Tell that to the disabled guy who's wife has to bathe and dress him and wipe his butt for him because he's paralyzed. Wouldn't it be nice to have a robot to do that for her?

I guarantee that was preprogrammed. It was just a demo of how they can move. the AI comes later.

Gortexfogg 01-15-2004 12:04 PM

Those little robots just blew every animatronic creature ever made to bits! Quite amazing in my opinion...

Yes, Matrix-style.

crewsor 01-17-2004 03:40 PM

I think they should arm them and send a couple of thousand over to Iraq.

Tempboy 01-19-2004 02:58 PM

Hahahha.. that was amazing!

But I see the next step as either being
A) Gundam
or
B) Animatrix: Second Renaissance

Yikes.

mr_mcrafe 01-20-2004 08:49 PM

Whoa that's impressive. I wonder what they'll be doing next...

If only they hung out the washing.

PulpMind 01-21-2004 12:34 AM

my friend is sitting here, I click on that, and he says something like "those are some cool costumes!" and I say "those are robots"

neat

God of Thunder 01-22-2004 06:21 AM

Very fluid movement. I'm very impressed.

I'm so used to think of robots as something from the 50's and 60's sci-fi flicks.

cJoe 01-23-2004 09:17 PM

Wow! that's amazing. I'd get one. Almost don't believe it

aarchaon 02-05-2004 03:20 AM

Just a matter of time until we kneel down before our almighty robotic overlords.

ireallydontknow 02-24-2004 04:20 PM

Those robots seems really small.. maybe 1 foot tall?

sadistikdreams 02-24-2004 08:51 PM

Surreal

They move so smoothly.

Their legs are rather bad, though.

GraveTaker 03-03-2004 04:32 PM

that's friggin wicked, yeah their legs are bad but it's hard to build legs that will keep the robot balanced and dance at the same time.

those are friggin cool though

t3m3st 03-03-2004 07:27 PM

Man... I could learn a thing or two from those little guys
