Way to remove Internet Explorer?

I can't figure out how to get it off my machine. I ge tlots of site errors lately, and was hoping I could remove it from the machine some how, or reinstall it, or somthing of the sort.

Not really sure what to do to get rid of IE and reinstall it. Any help is appreciated.

I think one of the points involved in the Microsoft anti trust suit was that Explorer could not be removed.

Maybe if you explain why you want to uninstall/reinstall it we could help.

There are several other browsers available if using an alternative is your goal, but, removing it entirely, well, have a nice day.

you can reinstall it but youcan't uninstall it. you can not-use it for web-browsing but that's it. sorry.

Explorer is un-removable since it is one of the main functions of Windows operating system. Without it, practically the whole OS wouldn't exist.

Kurant 01-13-2004 08:27 PM

How do you re-install it then? I want to use it, I don't want to rid myself of it, I just want it to work correctly. I get lots of errors when trying to access sites, ESPN, this one takes a few times tol oad, cbssportsline.com, lots of other ones I visit frequently. I attribute that to IE, it's never happend before, it just started. I've used ad-aware, virus check, etc.. etc.. still happens.

Microsoft's "demonstration" of this was shown to be fabricated. Either way, looks like the original question has been answered :)

I guarantee all of IE is NOT gone since IE is the file-browser. I won't say you can't delete all the IE files... but your system's gonna be like a piece of swiss cheese afterwards. it's like deleting finder!

Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer i always thought were *mostly* independent of each other (aside from using the address bar in either one to access local or internet..)..
(and the fact that they run as separate processes)

they basically are. MS just wants you (and the government) to think they need each other.

Yeah, I could have sworn I found a way to get rid of it last year. Looks like that link was how I did it. It was fucking up really bad, and I wanted to uninstall it completely before reinstalling it. Didn't fix the problem though. :)

What are the Errors that you are getting? I ask because, depending on the error, it might not be a problem with IE.

Lasereth 01-14-2004 06:57 PM

I remembered how I uninstalled it. In Windows XP, go to Control Panel, and then Add or Remove Programs. There is a little section called "Add/Remove Windows Components." Go to that section, and IE is listed as a program. Uncheck it and apply, and then it's gone! Ha ha. I wish I would have thought of that before.
