Webdesigner portfolio -- HELP!
I just graduated from college and am beginning the big job search thing.
I have over a dozen fullsize websites under my belt, but don't exactly know how to transmit that information via my designers portfolio. Without using a website to showcase my work (which I've already done), or even a CD with local copies of the entire websites, how should I construct a printed portfolio of my works for interviews? Computers may not always be available for viewing my work as it is, live on the Internet. Any ideas? |
Take screenshots. You dont need every page of the site, just enough to give a basic idea of layout, and any innovative things you may have done. Print these screenshots out, with captions if you like.

Yes, I have done it before, but I do not have anything I can send you. What I did was take screenshots of the pages (hit Print Screen, then paste it into an image editor and save it off, or use any of many screen capture programs available). I then put them, two to a page, into a Word document, and put captions to them. Again, you dont need every page of the site, just enough to show them the look and feel, and anything innovative or neat you did with it. Make sure the captions arent too long, but also make sure they sufficiently explain anything of note you did with the site.

what are the sites?

dont take a laptop.. i graduatede in 2002.. and i went through what you are going to go through in the future.
Your best bet is to follow sailor's advace.. take screenshots of sites that gauge the feel of your work, and unique/complicated features.. be sure to highlight in your presentation "oh this image is created on the fly using javascript arrays and a randomizer and placed with CSS" etc.. take about 5-8 screenshots per website and only show the sites that are really relevant to the position applying for or the ones that are done better than the rest. You dont wanna kill them with a flood of screnshots, so keep the whole presentation short and sweet. Another suggestion is to make a pdf of said screenshots, or director project, executable, powerpoint presentation, etc.. and place them on the businesscard sized CDs. I beleive they hold either 12 or 26 mb of data. That way.. you can have your print portfolio and presentation..and hand the prospective employee your resume hardcopy and a little bizcard portfolio on your way out. Good Luck! |
