Webhosting for free? re:ad in back of PCWorld magazine - Tilted Forum Project Discussion Community

So this was discussed previously but fell of the edge of the 300 mark in this forum and disappeared.

It was an ad in the back of PCWorld from a well know hosting company offering free hosting with 300mb's stotage, mysql, php4,use of your domain name, and 2gb transfer, all for free for at least a year as a way of gaining customers.
It was discussed and no one really ever figured if it was a gimmik with fine print or not. Now i'm looking for someplace to host a three to four page peice of info that needs php4 and figured i'd test the limits of this gimmik.
Does anyone remeber the name or address of this company?

(Or have i simply hulicinated this

)

I don't recall the thread myself, though I think a couple of friends use 1&1 web hosting http://order.1and1.com/ and they have some sort of free term. Perhaps it is the same place?

ya i have an account with them. its perfectly fine. i use it for my perl scripts. the only downside is they want your telephone #. it is used for validation.

1and1 is great! How could you complain about 3 free years of hosting?

Rundown:
500Mb
5 GB transfer
unlimited sub-domains (if you transfer yours [or buy one] $5.99 a year I belive...)
redirect you existing domain for free
4 ftp accounts
unlimited email

and a few more things I prolly forgot.

The only downside I have seen so far, is that they seem a bit slow, ftp is pretty speedy, but when you are in your managment screen, it takes awile to do anything.

well i've signed up. We'll see how good their service really is. The admin panel seems slow, and the name servers are slow in propogating the new information, but all in all it seems like a good deal.

This is exactly the company i was looking for. Thank you ro everyone who responded.
