Hijacked by names direct
whenever I attempt to go to fark, I'm instead being sent to the namesdirect page, although the address bar still reads fark. This problem is only occuring in IE, not mozilla, and started just today. I've searched for spy/adware on the pc, and it's coming up clean, and my hosts file is empty. Any suggestions?
specs: Windows ME (yeah, yeah, I know) IE 6.0.26 |
A quick search turned up this:
http://www.computing.net/security/ww...orum/6754.html hope it helps. Also have a look thru the Tilted Computers forum, there's several threads on different kinds of spyware/trojans/hijackers, all with good advice. 2 more things that might help, learn about your HOSTS file and the "supertrick" (google those terms), and also try this in IE: Tools>Internet Options>Settings>View Objects and see if there's anything wierd in there. Also maybe raise your Security level....good luck! EDIT: Scratch the thing about the HOSTS file, and maybe that link I posted won't be of help either, since it only happens in IE and not Mozilla. But have a look anyway...Your best bet may be the View Objects/Downloaded Program Files thing. |
It sounds like you have been hijacked. Go here http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html and download HijackThis or CWShredder. That should fix your problem.
