Agp Acceleration?

I am woundering if and how you turn "AGP acceleration" on? I just installed Max Payne 2 and after it was installed it told me that performance may be affected because "AGP acceleration" was not turned on. Is this just a bogus error message from the install or what?

I have a 8X Agp slot and a compatiable 8x Nvidia 5700 Fx card.

I have been out of computers for too long :P I really have no clue!

Thanks for any help in advance.

Are these settings controlled by the "Hardware Acceleration" slider in the "Advanced" settings of the "Display Properties"? If so it is set to full acceleration, is Max Payne just being silly?

Thanks again.

on your stuff that slider would be the only thing i could think of. sounds like maxpayne is being silly. set the games video options to a lower level and see if that helps. of course see if it is affected at all at your current settings before that though.

Thanks,

I forgot to say that the game runs fine, but it just gave me that stupid message after the install.

Thanks!

The message could be referring to the AGP multiplier in the bios. Remember just because the BOX says AGP 8x doesn't mean that is what it it running at.

You can check for sure under the display properties
Settings-->advanced

Than click on the Nvida tab, If you are using the latest video drivers it should say right in that tab if you are running at 8X.
If you are, then that game is high, if you aren't then one of the settings is set wrong.

Well, get this,

I am baffled, my computer is making my frustrated. But I guess that is what computers do.

My comp display settings under "advanced" -> "Nvidia Props" it has Bus: AGP (PCI mode) Odd no?

And I checked my bothers comp, in the same spot (he has a geforce 3) his reads Bus: AGP 4X

So here it goes,

Win XP
512 MB Ram
Mobo as below
Video as below
o/b sound, but i use a Sblive card

I have the Msi 648F Neo (SiS 648FX Chipset) Motherboard -Link here- And the XfX GeForce Fx 5700 256 DDR Video Card AGP-Link Here-
Now when I do the math of Mobo w/ 8x AGP support and a Video Card with 8x AGP, AND the video card in the AGP Slot should things not work out by them selves? I have set the primary video in the bios as AGP but that did not a thing. I cant really find anything else in the bios that should enable the 8X AGP.

I am just asking you guys before I call one of these guys for tech support. Maybe its something REALLY stupid that I cannot see. Maybe they are not compatible hardware, I am going to look right now, thanks again guys,

Later.
