2 unrelated XP issues

1st the confusing one.

I have a Ati 7500, and whenever I use the DVI, or S video outputs, the computer randomly freezes. Using VGA, its fine. I tried contacting ati but........... I'm still waiting (3x email, 4 weeks, no replies)

I am unable to have my comp on for more than 30~mins.

Problem 2.

I just installed a belkin usb 2.0 PCI card, and a belkin 4 self powered usb hub. The install went fine, and both were found, but when I put my logitech pro 4000 into the hub, I got the BSOD, and the offending driver was for the PCI card. I unplugged the cam, restarted, and as soon as Xp booted, the "the system just recovered from a serious error" box pooped up, and that annoying yellow exclamation triangle keeps popping up in the task manager. But when I click it, no box pops up, it just disapears, then comes back.

I tried looking in the event veiwer to see what happened, but as soon as I opened it, it told me "the log file is corupted" and everything was erased.

Blah.

I hate my comp sometimes.

1st problem....its possible that your video card is not getting enough power. How old or how "big" is your power supply?

2nd problem..have you tried putting the USB 2.0 card into a different PCI slot? there might be so sharing issues

420w, and less than a year.

Yes. And there are 2 other things plugged into the hub, a Nikon camera, and a 80211.b adapter.

Banginblaz, I tried looking up your Asus Mboard, but the A7V is available in different freqs/models.

I had a problem with a SOYO that wouldn't do crap, much like yours. When I unplugged the USB 2.0 add on (pci) card, everything was cool. as usb 2.0 was already happening.

Don't hold your breath waiting for ATI to respond. It aint gonna happen. When they do reply, they will ask if you have the latest drivers, do you drink milk, silly bullshit...

Give more info on your mobo, as their might be a correlation.

Your mboard seems to have a problem with usb2, and agp whatever. Give more info about your 7500, system, and anything else you might want to throw in.

I agree that you are unlikely to get a response from ATI and if you do it wont mean anything. as for the usb have you tried it without the hub? try running straight from the card and see what happens. Maybe it will give you a differnt error that might help narrow it down

I had everything plugged in before the 2.0 card and hub, and there was no problems.

They are the only new addons to my system.

The mobo is rev. 1.02 and 200mhz

About your ATI trouble,
I had a buddy with the same card and troubles.

I know its a little simple/odd but after about a week of doing stuff we updated his via 4in1 drivers and the problem never resurfaced. Weird but it worked for him. Know/read what your doing before trying it.

http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=300

and, yes, ATI will not solve your problem.

It turns out my friend's ATI card was overheating due to a wire inside his box hitting the card's fan. It should be covered by the computer manufactuer, not ATI. He expects them to upgrade to a newer/bigger card for his trouble. -Go figure

Ok, now whenever I boot up with the Hub plugged in, I get the BSOD...................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hate this!!!!!

I called belikin (that was a laugh) and I got a voicemail Box telling me to leave my number. It then told me I couldnt, cause it was full. The covering extension didnt pick up at all.

But at least I know 100% it is the hub, all other devices (including the webcam) work fine plugged in direct.

Help!

1) Remove both items and uninstall the drivers.

2) Install the driver of one THEN put the correct item in so the Windows and computer can configure itself and resources for THAT item. (That way the drivers won't cross load for the wrong item.)

3) Reboot and let Windows initialize the item, once it is done and has recognized the first one, put the second item in and when P&P notices it and ask for those drivers, direct it to the directory or CD and let those get installed.

Should work because you install two different items two different ways so the drivers can't get cross loaded.
Good luck..
