Lcd monitor. Help me reach a choice!

So i'm looking at two monitors as follows below. I've listed pro's and con's for each but was hoping to hear opinions from current users and and comments on brand quality for the two to better form my descion in the remainder of the week.

for reference, this is being used for heavy autocad work and graphics in a home studio environment. Both have the same form factor depth, so it becomes a screen size and quality issue. CRT's for 9 hour days have finally dulled my eyes and they need something less bright, as well as their not being enough space for construction documents on my table next to the computer.
It would be purchased on Dell credit with a monthly pay of 50.00 to pay of the credit line in 13 months with ~43.00 in interest. Your opinions on that are also welcome.

Poor warrenty if not used with a dell system

Pro's:
Built in speakers
Nice cable managment
Dual input
larger viewing angles
better warrenty

Con's:
Smaller screen acerage for same $
no usb hub
longer shipping time (1-2 weeks vs 1 day)
fewer refresh rates
no Portrait/Landscape panel rotation

What are your opinions on the two brands and just generaly which is a better deal?

i have samsung 213T and i absolutely love the portrait feature, but that suits the type of work i do.

speakers built in tend to be pretty crappy, and if you listen to music youll probably use better ones or headphones esp if its for work

usb ports are nice, check if its USB hiSpeed or fullSpeed though

dot pitches and contrast ratio are different though, so you might want to consider that too.

according to this, the 1901 has built in speakers too... might be wrong though, it looks like its an option

I couldnt find who made that dell, maybe samsung or sanyo, i know sony did make a of their stuff, but it just doesn't feel like a sony.

Im pretty sure the Dell is a Samsung. I was going to buy one a while back, and Im pretty sure it was just a Dell badged Samsung.

I would look more at the quality of the image--find out what the contrast ratios and dot pitches are.

Being seriously not up to date on such things,
for the graphics industry what is a fair median dot pitch?

The sony is a 400:1 and the dell is a 600:1.
What's the signifigance of the difference?

the smaller the dot pitch the better it is, in lcds it could be different since thers a dot gap too, but on a decent LCD they'd never get away with that!!
so the smaller the dot pitch, the more pixels, the higher quality the image.

contrast ratio is 400:1 600:1 the higher the number the brighter anyting on the screen will look against the black (or dark) so in this case 600

i bet the refresh frequencies are what it can handle as inputs, the true refresh rate is fixed on LCDs.

they dont seem to list the speed of the lcd (simply how quikcly a pixel can go from on to off the longer the more of a trail or motion blue like effect you get on animations and games etc) , [edit milliseconds]

I like the Sony. For the record, I don't know much, but my eyes love my Apple Studio Display.

hmm, the sony has selling points but also a higher price
I'm thinking of the dell at this point but i'm a little afraid to spend that much in credit. I've already got 2k in CC debt and my rational side is telling me to wait six months using the crt and pay of the CC first.
Having a hard time with this.

on a side not, who makes the apple cinema display?

LG makes the 23", i think the 22 as well (might be samsung) , the rest are samsungs.

Hey, I've been wanting to get one of those for a while now but I think the price is too high, considering you can get a 19" for close to half the price. I'm waiting for the new year, when new products get introduced to see if it goes down in price.

Although, I don't do all that much gaming I do play occasionally, how would you rate the 213t? Is there much ghosting visible, etc.?

Really? Are you sure that it's not made by a sub-contractor?
thanks for the advice on buying on credit. i'm starting to think i should wait. sometimes it takes typing something out to analyze it.
I still appreciate any thoughts on both credit or the monitors though. I'm thinking post christamas now, and putting in extrawork over the holidays to clear up my debt and get this.

Well just to be a pain in the ass I'll recommend the LG 1710B(U). It's only 17" buts all the reviews I have seen have given it insanely high scores, like 96% for PC Games Addict. If the monitor had motion blur issues I would image a gaming mag wouldn't like it. It's contrast ratio is only 400:1 though.

I have a dell 1801FP at home, and a 1901FP at work.

The 1801FP is just about perfect, although it's not quite as adjustable as I was expecting (in the up-down, left right monitor stand kind of way), it has never been a problem. This LCD also handled both analogue and digital inputs perfectly, although you could see morrie(sp?) patterns on the X rootweave (not as bad as you see on most CRT's though) with a VGA cable, DVI cable it is fine. Play games this quite a bit, and don't notice any motion blur at all.

The 1901FP is really adjustable, never used the rotation feature though. It does seem to have a much worse A/D converter, so if you don't have a DVI card with this LCD, you will want one. Running VGA into one of these typically results in bands of fuzziness, which you don't notice, until you do, and then you can see nothing except the bands of fuzziness. This monitor is a lot more adjustable, and easier to swap cables in and out of.

So, there is my word, whatever it's worth to you.
