Save $500+ On Photoshop, Illustrator an more?!?!? This has gotta be a scam.

http://www.sale-oem.biz

My friend just sent me this site. His company is contemplating using this route for software, but they are concerned about the validity. What do YOU guys think?

The WHOIS puts the company in Ekaterenburg, Russian Federation, and was registered December 2, 2003. So, there'll be no history, and very hard to track down if there's a problem.

Also, Google reports no links to them, but Google Groups shows much spam generated by them, reported in news.admin.net-abuse.sightings. So, just due to the fact that they are spammers, tells me NO on using them.

www.resellerratings.com has nothing on them at all. Google reports nothing. I made up a fake name and CC number and submitted an order for XP Professional. It actually told me the CC number wasn't correct, so they have some sort of data validation going on there.

XP Pro for $40 seems too good to be true, so I don't know what to tell ya. I wouldn't risk it simply because all I can find is jackshit info on them, and jack left town.

The products ARE OEM, so they come with no manuals, instructions, boxes, nothing -- only the CD and key. That would be the reason it's so low-priced, but OEM items are usually never this low.

Ok guys.. check it out.. on the faq..

"This software is recognized as a backup software. "

That basically means that they are not selling licenses, only copies of a disc.

Warez.

Arent there stipulations to buying OEM software. Like it has to be purchased with the sale of a system?

And retail is to be purcahsed by the general public.

I dont think photoshop is sold in OEM format, windows yes, but ps no.

How would they make copies of XP though, I know Microsoft would have definite protection against that.

I won't say anything other than this isn't always the case.

Not only that, but Microsoft does sell copies of disks that have no licences attached. They arent meant to be sold like this, but are instead used for larger setups where it is impractical to buy a box set for each machine. The user then reports how many installs they made and purchase that many licences. I have one such disk (given to me by a microsoft rep, no less ).

That said, this would mean that these copies they are selling are not legal to use--they have no license. Thats a no go, especially for a business. Sorry.

I do know there are ways around everything.

Funny that they note that they will give you the key to make it work, but they tell you NOT to register with the company.....fishy

This company is may be providing you with illegal copies of M$ software. Use at your own risk. If you purchace OEM software, you have to buy a peice of hardware with it; ie a NIC, patch cable, something unless you are reselling it. If you are reselling it, you are required to sell some piece of hardware with it. (part of M$ OEM software liscensing agreement). I would not advise using this for a company because of the questionable nature of its source; M$ will sue if it is illegal and they find out about it, especially in a business environment. The company I work for is a M$ certified reseller and OEM system builder, I have to explain M$ jacked up licensing system at least 3-4 times per day to customers. Hope this helps. As for the Adobe, I am not sure on thier licensing, although that is a damn cheap price if it is legit.

Just like Halx said, it's warez. You'll never qualify for the "license agreement", whatever it states, so save yourself some cash!! You're just basically paying them to burn the CD for you. If you're gonna do that, then just clone everything or install each box from the same single-user license, it's about the same. You may never get "busted", but I don't think those Russian guys selling the stuff are ever gonna get busted, either....

Credit card numbers employ checksumming to protect against typos. You probably entered one with an invlaid checksum.

Also, these guys don't have SSL order processing. NEVER submit your credit card number to a company that doesn't have SSL order processing.

Yeah, that's why I said that had some sort of data validation going on. At least they made the effort to go that far.

Search Google for "free credit card validation script" and you'll get dozens of things that do that. I can check whether card #'s are valid or not no my cell phone or graphing calculator.
