centrino battery life, hype or real ?

*That* is hype. No laptop can get 19 hours of runtime on one battery.

That being said, my laptop is Centrino, and I love it. I *do* get wonderful battery time--at least three hours, often more depending on what I am doing with it. I think my longest time was 4:30 off of a single charge. Not too shabby.

hey sailor, its a screenshot of my laptop :) its in maximum power saving mode, and yes it does make it just about,

lasts 7 hours in regular mode, 142 hours in standby !

Yeah. If I run in power-saving mode, I can get more out of mine too. But I stand by what I said about 19 hours--no laptop can run that long. Standby is a different matter, but that battery meter isnt reading correctly (which is a frequent occurence--it takes them a while to register any change... mine does the same thing).

i can assure you its right, the lithium ion batteries have a lot better reporting technology nowadays, its got a smart circuit in it, not only that i've used it for about that long.

I get 6-7 hours out of my standard battery, with the hi capacity its rated for 11 hours in average use, and whatever you can squeeze out of it in maximum mode, which turns off the cd,extra slots, lot monitor brightness.

Yeah, but there is a difference between 7-11 hours and 19 hours.

charliex 12-19-2003 01:40 PM

well duh, thats why i said average (7-11) vs maximum (19)

Hanabal 12-19-2003 03:06 PM

si if your in max power save mode, so can you do anything?
if you cant you might as well be in standby

charliex 12-19-2003 08:39 PM

yep it still works fine in max power save, you can't use the CD drive, or the memory card slot etc, but its fine for email and web browsing etc, obviously using max saving with a hi capacity battery, is not something you'd do all the time, but its a very nice option to have.
i've stopped carrying around my PSU now. the hi capacity battery adds a bit of weight, but if i felt like slimming it down the regular battery runs about 7-8 hours in max.

i think intel really did a great job on the lower power pentium in the centrinos, it'll be great to see what they come up with in centrino 2.

Definitely not hype. I know the Centrino laptops have really REALLY good battery life. I wanted an IBM T40 but couldn't justify the cost vs. a cheaper IBM plus other things. :(

Yeah, the T40 is what I have. Wonderful machine, I love it.

Friend has the small Sony Vaio with Centrio and he's gotten 10 hours. Don't know the power saving configuration tho.

Who cares about 19 hours when 10 still blows away any laptop in battery life. :)

charliex 12-20-2003 12:15 PM

rubicon, thats the one i have probably, the TR2A, the 19 is from the extended battery.
