cant find HD
im tring to fix a friends computer. And after reformating hes HD from my comp i put it back in hes. And forgot how the slave/master thing was hooked up. So i look at it and some reason its not like most HD/drives in general where you got one slot for slave one for master and one for sumtin else. Well this has 5 slots. If someone can explain to me how to host pictures ill post some pics of it. And on top it was a diagram that i dont understand.
its a old Maxtor 9108d5 Diagram: Jumper/master/slave j50 / on / off i wanna hook it up so it is master with out a slave. lemme know what you guys thinki need to do with it.

If I understand what you are asking, there is usually a diagram/picture on there that tells you how to set it. It should be easy to understand. It usually set up as if you were looking directly at the pins. The different types (master, slave, etc) may be abreviated.
Please try to proofread your posts, this was very difficult to understand.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'five slots' but if your talking about the machine case, this is irrelevant to your predicament. In fact from the info you provided, you need to find the two pins labeled j50, and jump them. That is put a jumper accross them so the drive is identified as a master. You also then need to plug the drive into the correct connector on the ribbon cable. Some it doesn't matter, some label each connector with master or slave.
What do you mean by 'five slots?' -bear here is a link to the manual for that model drive on maxtor's site: LINK

If one of those sets of pins is labeled j50....that is exactly what you need to place a jumper across. -bear EDIT: Did you look at that link to the manual I provided above?

You gotta remember that even if you get the jumper setting correct on the HDD, you still have to put it on the right connector on the IDE cable. Make sure the HDD is on the Master connector on the IDE cable, not the Slave.
I'd try to help with the jumper settings, but the settings vary for each HDD. There's not much we can do without pictures. -Lasereth
