So I was recently converted to Opera. I liked it so much I paid for it.
However, I have just today moved over to a new computer; an IBM T41P. This is a nice, top of the range, laptop. I usually get a new one every six months or so, but this time Opera is having LOTS of problems. It is consistently crashing with "run time errors" on sites that work perfectly well on my "old" T40. I'm not sure what is causing this, but it's driving me nuts. So... Does anyone have any recommendations for alternative browsers? I'm not really a fan of IE and I like a lot of the features in Opera. But not if it's as stable as a drunk one-legged kangaroo on a raft during a tornado... Mr Mephisto PS - Please don't recommend Netscape. It's crap. |

Mozilla or Firebird. Either one is good, and I prefer both over Opera (and I used to be a religious Opera user).
Only thing that Opera has that Mozilla and/or Firebird doesn't that I can think of is mouse gestures. But, there is an addon that you can use to get mouse gestures located somewhere at www.mozdev.org

are the sites that cause Opera to crash using flash or java plug-ings? Are you using the same version now as before? The latest is 7.23 but you may have had an older version that was more stable on those particular sites.

I still like IE for forums since Firebird doesn't render forum text boxes a decent size. IE is fine as long as you run it thru something like the Proxomitron and immunize yourself with Spybot. For porn and other sites however I run Firebird as it has too many cool options IE doesn't have, such as tabbed browsing and bookmarking of a group of tabs. I don't like Avant at all...too many buttons and it feels cheap to me for some reason. I made a guide for Mozilla porn gathering that I will repost here if it's wanted or I can PM it to anyone who asks.

I also switched from Opera to Firebird.
I wont try to explain it too much--flamingpeach seems to have done a better job than I would. Suffice it to say that it kicks ass.
