IE to Mozilla favorites
Okay, I should be able to do this on my own.
I'm starting to use Mozilla, and I'd like to move over my IE favorites. I found the folder where IE keeps the favs, but when I try to import them, it don't work. I'm using IE 6 and Mozilla 1.2.1 on XP Pro. I'm using the import tool, and I've found the IE favorites folder. The problem is that I can't seem to select the favorties folder, or any of the favorites and import them. The only option I get is "open." So, I select the IE favorites folder and click open. Yeah, it opens the folder to the rest of the favorites. I thought about just dumping the files into Mozilla's favorites folder, but I don't know where mozilla keeps those files. I've been through the explorer and Mozillas folders, I don't see a place for favorites. Do I just create one? Where? While I'm at it, I hear firebird is great. Opinions on the Mozilla I've got vs Firebird? Thanks. |

I would strongly suggest looking at Moz 1.5 or the one of the nightly builds of 1.6b to get the full benefits of all of the tweaking and bugfixes. my first thought on seeing your post was BookmarkPriest, but not certain if that works with the latest versions of Opera and Mozilla. Quote:

Okay, here's what you do:
File -> Import and Export -> Next -> Export Favorites. You want to export it, not import it from IE. |
I'm going to elaborate on what Spectre said:
When you go to import favorites into Mozilla the 'open dialog' isn't looking for favorite files - it's looking for a hypertext file with a bunch of links in it. There's an option in IE to export your favorites to such a file. So just export them to your desktop (which will make a bookmarks.html file) and then just import it with Mozilla! Weee - all good stuff! |

Ahhh ha.
Export the files into Mozilla, rather than import them. Why didn't I think of that? Oh, because when I'm trying to bring things IN, I don't think OUT. I am such a fool. :) Thanks dudes. |
Wait.
What about the "Imported IE Favorites" section in the bookmarks menu??? In my experience Mozilla has always AUTOMATICALLY imported favorites. Granted, they were in a sub-menu, but they were certainly there. |
That menu is empty. I don't know why.
Hmm...I downloaded firebird, but I haven't installed it yet. Maybe I'll get this one figured out. I just hope I end up liking it better than IE, or what'll the point've been? |
